Description

She is Persephone to his Hades, the perfect golden goddess he can never be worthy of. To her, he is the dark Adonis and perfect Galahad of her dreams. How can they overcome the forces that keep them apart, even as passion and love draw them together?

Lady Ava Layne has had a schoolgirl crush on the handsome and accomplished Jerome DeVere, Marquess of Ravenshaw, for years. But Jerome is fourteen years her senior and her brother’s best friend. When she makes her debut at eighteen, she hopes to finally attract his attention, but he makes it clear that she will always be like a sister to him. Devasted, Ava does her best to get over him and try to comply with her family’s desire for her to choose a suitable husband. But she can’t forget the man who is her secret hero.

Outwardly, Jerome DeVere is the quintessential Corinthian. He excels at everything he does, from horse riding, driving, and fencing to cards and dancing. However, behind the perfect façade is man scarred by the dark shadows of his past. As schoolgirl Ava turns into a lovely debutante and rocks his world, he cannot let her see that the little girl he loved as a sister has become the goddess he would worship, and he does his best to destroy her adolescent crush, even though it breaks his heart to hurt her.

When her brother presses Ava to consider a proposal from her most eligible suitor, Jerome is determined on a marriage of convenience, fiercely determined to do what he believes is best for Ava.

But Ava is equally determined not to let him.

Compromised by the woman he loves, Jerome can do nothing else but marry her and hope fervently that he can become worthy of her. However, the happily ever after they both desire remains elusive when the past won’t stay buried. Can their stormy, passionate love survive the horrors of Jerome’s past and the scandals that threaten to tear their lives apart?

This is the fourth book in the series.

The FMC is the sister of the Duke from the first book and it is her coming out season. She has loved one of her brothers friends for years and plans to make him her husband. He has only ever thought of her as a little sister, but when he sees her as a grown woman, he realises he has feelings for her. But ghosts from his past make him believe that he is not worthy of her, so he diswades her attentions. It follows them through a few seasons, until her brother decides to arrange a match for her. When the MMC finds out, he decides he needs to marry too and proposes a marriage of convenience to a friend. Not wanting to risk loosing him, the FMC travels to his country estate to attempt one last time to change his mind. They end up caught in a compromising position and forced into marriage, which both are happy about. But what happens when his ghosts catch up to him, will they destroy their chances at a HEA.

I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend reading it.

i didn't just like this book, I absolutely loved it. I have become a big fan of this author recently and this is the latest in a series called All for Love. Ava is in love with her brother's friend and has been since she was a child. He's much older and is appalled that he has come to have feelings for his best friend's little sister. Emphasis on little, he can't get past the fact that she should still be a child. This is a trope that I generally do like so I was all in for it. I also loved that Ava decided the only way to get what she wanted was to just go for it and compromise the Marquess. That is just the beginning of such a lovely read. One of the things I sometimes get tired of in a book where marriage takes place early in the story is how all of a sudden there's a misunderstanding and the couple just can't be honest enough to work it out. This story doesn't do that, you see the strength of the love these two have for each other throughout all the problems and conflicts that happen. That seems to be a refreshing take on a story like this.
Ava is a loving, open, honest woman and Jerome is loving but has many demons. These demons do come to the marriage and both Ava and Jerome have to deal with many problems and it is a twisty, winding road that they traverse. There were unexpected happenings and you really see the growth in Jerome as he deals with his past. A very satisfying read. Did I say steamy?? Yes, it is!!!!

What I really love about Wren St. Claire’s writing is that it can always be counted on as a nice and total escape into an almost fantastical, wonderful, warm and steamy world of historical romance. She doesn’t write angsty, serious stories and hers instead are full of whimsical MCs, reckless and unlikely endeavors and the pages, which just turn themselves.

This was another such wonderful escape. We were familiar with MCs (Ava and Jerome) from the previous three books, and they had a torridly steamy love affair complete with a forced marriage. Ah, but I silently bemoaned that the last installment (Deo’s story) was a bit tame on the action and Wren St. Claire made up for it here in spades. There were murders, mysteries and even court proceedings! I really recommend this whole series as feel good stories (low angst, even when angst is present on page, if this makes sense) with great HEAs. Love the interaction between all the characters and can’t wait to see whose story is next - Kenrick’s or Lannister’s?

Thanks to NetGalley and Dragonblade publishing for this advance read!
