Description
Maple and Margaret Sanford might be sisters, but they couldn’t be more different. Ten-year-old Maple is a pancake-obsessed griddle cook determined to save their grandma’s failing restaurant, Dot’s Diner. Margaret is a college-bound beauty queen who can’t wait for their mom to sell the run-down restaurant. On the last day before Dot’s Diner will be sold to the town’s multimillionaire mogul, the girls are thrown into a dangerous food-themed treasure hunt, looking for gold left by runaway outlaw Crispy Cruller. Joined by a trusty friend, helpful robot drone, and adorable pup, Maple and Margaret will dive deep into the twisted caves and caverns underneath their town facing one syrup-sticky flapjack trap after another. With nothing more than their grandma’s cookbook clues to guide them, will the Sanford Sisters be able to put their differences aside, find the loot, and save Dot’s Diner before it’s too late?
From the creators of Star Beasts, Stephanie Young and Allyson Lassiter’s newest adventure is stacked full of fun foodie hijinks and features ten pancake recipes to make at home.

This was such a wholesome, fun and adventure filled story to bring back their grandma's legacy, the diner as well as reconnect sisters bond. I read this in one sitting and was a very fun book. I really had a good time overall and recommend anyone to read this book.

This was a fun graphic novel that involves a fun treasure hunt. I also liked how it explored the relationship between the two sisters and how they learn more about each other on the adventure they go.
Pancake lover paradise!
Maple loves Dot’s Diner, the main reminder she has of her late grandmother, with her love of pancakes ranking just below. When the last day of the diner comes, she ends up in a madcap dash to find the lost treasure of her grandmother’s mafia beau, hoping to save her haven.
This graphic novel is The Goonies meets breakfast deliciousness; a fun-filled ride that will keep readers flipping pages until they reach the all-too-soon end.
The adventure is hilariously fun, the characters are loveable, and the illustrations/colourization add vibrance to the amazing plot.
The idea of food-based booby traps would make for an amazing creative writing or art lesson for middle grade classrooms.

"The Pancake Trap" is a middle grade graphic novel written by Stephanie Young and illustrated by Allyson Lassiter. Maple Sanford is a ten-year-old who loves working at her family's Pancake Diner (founded by her late grandmother Dot), but unfortunately the property has been purchased by a robotics mogul and it's their last day. Her older sister Margaret is more focused on paying for her upcoming college years and is participating in a local beauty pageant. When they stumble on a mystery involving stolen gold and their grandmother's former boyfriend, they end up going on an adventure! Fun and humorous with colorful illustrations, this is a suggested purchase for middle grade graphic novel collections.

A touching, hopeful, cozy graphic novel!
Young cooks will love this one for its setting and the recipes it shares!
Maple is relatable for all the young aspiring cooks. It is fun to see Margaret and Maple's relationship grow so much during their brief journey. It also touches on family dynamics beautifully with each sister having a different way they connected with and in turn remember their grandma. It is also a hopeful story for young readers to see the evil tech billionaire get their comeuppance.
