“Wonderful Book” by Riah
Great story that reflects to children to be themselves despite others’expectations. Illustrations are warm and inviting. Might get children to eat their veggies while enjoying the sweet story. I like it because it is not gender specific and can be used for all children.

“Adorable Book” by Mary B.
This adorable book addresses a child’s desire to become independent, think for himself or herself, and still love his or her parents. The hunting and food themes speak to universal, timely issues for survival. The warm fuzzy illustrations are wonderful and sure to delight children as well as adults. I love this book.

“A beautiful book for all” by Ben G.
This book tells a wonderful story of a youth finding his own way and making his own decisions in life. I think the message is timeless, yet connected to modern life with current research on diet, etc., as showing vegetarian diets to be a more mainstream choice these days than in the past. The artwork is superb, with a soft classic “vintage” feeling that tells me great care was put into each picture.

“Delightful Children’s Story” by Mary P.
Beautifully illustrated, a charming story with a wonderful lesson of compassion and nutrition too! A great children’s book!

About the author:

Elliott Gilbert was born in Brooklyn, NY., and had been a resident in the West Village for 49 years, until moving to Hoboken, NJ. In 1959 he found himself aboard the liner Liberte, bound for France, and where he met his wife, Judy. Summers were spent in a monastery in Provence, painting villages and landscapes. Returning to the USA, he realized “I had to make a living before becoming an artist!” Gilbert opened his own advertising agency, “which I ultimately planned to leave at some point”, and by 1980 that point arrived.

Elliott Gilbert has since had innumerable art exhibitions, won awards, and has illustrated and written children’s books. Currently published by Amazon, in addition to Max Goes Hunting, are Rudy Rabbit Tried, and The Cat Story. Previously illustrated children’s books include The Best Loved Doll, by Rebecca Caudill and published by Holt. Still available, this has become a classic. Also illustrated: Mittens in May and Lizzie! by Poet Laureate Maxine W. Kumin.
