Ready to code and build? The STEM Kids Make a Robot written by Dr. Carlotta A. Berry and illustrated by Samuel Valentino dives right into the world of engineering. Follow fourth graders Santana, Tyler, Ebony, and Minyuan (STEM Kids) as they use the engineering design process to tackle a problem kids will relate too: sorting finished lunch trays into trash and recycling is taking time away from recess! Although some of the dialogue feels tailored specifically to teach the reader, the rich inclusion of modern tech concepts (3D printing, Tinkercad, MakeCode, micro:bits, and more) makes it an excellent spark for inquisitive kids. Recommended for integrating into an engineering or robotics unit!
