Written with clarity and purpose in a moreish POV, this book subverts the typical ideas of a FMC. It's a YA House of Usher with magic and a nice romance mystery. Nice twist at the end that I didn't see coming, though I am left with a few plot hole-esque questions. In a world of DNFs, I read it front to back in one sitting.

I really enjoyed reading Our Wicked Gifts it was suspenseful, gripping, and incredibly hard to put down. The story kept me guessing from beginning to end, with twists that genuinely surprised me. The book follows 19 year old Cicely Winter and her wealthy, influential family, whose lives are built on dark secrets and a sinister deal with the devil. Each family member possesses a supernatural ability, Cicely’s being the power to uncover people’s secrets, though she must enter the Ruin, a hell like dimension, to do so. Four years earlier, the family sacrificed a boy close to Cicely’s age to the Ruin, and the event has never sat right with her. As she begins to question what really happened, a series of mysterious deaths unfolds around her, pushing her to use her gift to uncover the truth. I especially loved the mystery element, it was full of tension and unexpected turns, and I genuinely didn’t see the ending coming. The family dynamics added another layer of depth to the story, Cicely’s relationships with her siblings, cousins, and mother were complex and often frustrating, which made her character even more compelling. I’d love to see a continuation of this story, particularly to explore more about the Ruin and its origins. Overall, this was a fast paced, engaging read that held my interest the entire time without ever feeling dragged out. A thoroughly enjoyable book.

I really enjoyed Our Wicked Gifts. It’s been such a long time since I picked up a mystery book, and this reminded me why the genre can be so addictive.

From the beginning I was completely pulled into the story. The mix of dark fantasy, family secrets and murder mystery kept me constantly wanting to know what was going on next. I found myself saying “just one more chapter” way too many times because every answer seemed to open up even more questions.

Cicely was such an interesting FMC to follow because she never fully felt like she belonged in her own family, which made uncovering everything alongside her even more engaging. I also really liked that the romance didn’t overpower the mystery. It stayed in the background enough that the investigation and tension remained the main focus.

The atmosphere of this book was probably one of my favourite parts. It felt gloomy, mysterious and slightly unsettling in the best way. I genuinely never wanted to stop reading because I was so invested in finding out what was actually happening.

This definitely reminded me that I need to read more mystery books because I had such a good time with this one.
