Description
The ocean is not empty. It has been patient. And its patience is over.
Blue Planet – Red Tide is a fast-paced ocean eco-thriller / sci-fi thriller about an ancient alien civilization hidden beneath Earth’s oceans for millennia. When human pollution, pesticide runoff, dead zones, deep-sea mining, shark finning, and plastic waste begin threatening their world, they finally reveal themselves—not to conquer humanity, but to stop humanity from destroying the planet they share.
Marine scientist Dr. Kayla Torres and ocean explorer Dr. Trevor Steel are pulled into a terrifying first-contact crisis as red tides spread, governments panic, naval forces mobilize, and something far older than humanity rises from the deep.
Blending ocean science, military suspense, environmental horror, and cinematic adventure, Blue Planet – Red Tide is ideal for readers who enjoy Michael Crichton-style science thrillers, Clive Cussler-style ocean adventure, first-contact science fiction, eco-fiction, and high-stakes nautical suspense.

“A provocative and chair-grabbing adventure into the depths of the ocean. This book gives a whole new perspective on a realm few of us have seen in the vast depths of the ocean. The secrets of the deep sea revealed in this book also provide a chilling perspective on the very real cost of how our actions on land are placing not only the oceans, but life on earth at risk. Fact meets fiction, science fiction meets science, and a compelling story with compelling characters made this a book I didn't want to put down."

This book absolutely wrecked me in the best possible way. Blue Planet Red Tide is so much more than a sci-fi thriller or an alien horror story — it’s a terrifying reflection of humanity, survival, fear, greed, hope, and the choices we continue to make every single day in our own world. By the time I finished, I just sat there staring at the wall trying to process everything I had read.
Michael Harlow created a story that feels frighteningly possible, and honestly, that’s what made it hit so hard emotionally. Beneath all the chaos, mystery, and horror is a story about people trying to hold onto each other while the world around them falls apart. The fear felt real. The desperation felt real. The division between people, the panic, the distrust, the way humanity reacts in crisis… it all mirrors today’s world so accurately that it was honestly unsettling at times.
And yet, despite all the darkness, there’s still this underlying thread of hope woven through the story. That’s what made this book feel important to me. It reminds you that even when people are at their worst, there are still those willing to fight for compassion, truth, and each other.
The atmosphere in this book was incredible. Every scene felt vivid and cinematic. I could practically hear the crashing waves and feel the tension dripping off every page. The ocean imagery mixed with the sci-fi horror elements created such an eerie, unforgettable experience. There were moments that genuinely gave me chills.
But what really made this a five-star read for me was the emotional weight behind everything. I cared deeply about the characters and what happened to them. Their fear, grief, determination, and love for one another felt authentic. This wasn’t just action for the sake of action — every moment carried emotional consequences.
What makes this story stand out is how relevant it feels right now. The world could genuinely use this book. It forces readers to look at humanity and ask difficult questions about how we treat one another, how we respond to fear, and whether we’re capable of coming together before it’s too late. It’s rare to find a book that is both wildly entertaining and deeply thought-provoking, but this one managed to do both beautifully.
This is the kind of story that sticks with you long after you finish it. Dark, emotional, intense, terrifying, and painfully relevant. One of the most impactful books I’ve read in a long time.

Well, that was a wild ride!
Blue Planet - Red Tide is a complex, tension-filled story that explores what happens when the ocean no longer stays quiet, human corruption, the devastating damage humanity is causing the planet, and a warning from the history of a distant world.
The story follows Dr Kayla Torres and Dr Trevor Steel, as they fight to stop the world from descending into all-out war, while searchng for a solution to the destruction bring caused.
I really enjoyed this book because it moves at a fast pace and keeps the tension high throughout. I would definitely recommend it to anyone passionate about the environment and the future of our planet, as well as readers who enjoy an intense, suspenseful story.
The only thing I struggled with was the lack of speech marks at times. I understand the reason behind this, but having some form of differentiation from the main text would have made it easier to follow.
This is a genuinely interesting story. It shows humanity and how often we choose the easy way and not the way that is sustainable. How it's easy to hurt the environment.
The first contact story is interesting, but you have to suspend your belief a little bit when thinking about communication. The pacing is fast with many time jumps. The book is plot focused.
I enjoyed the themes of environmental presentation. And while the focus on the ocean made sense, I would have wished for at least a mention of the land mass being exploited with e.g. mining if metals or rare earths.
This book holds up a mirror for humanity and gives them a choice.
There is not much action in the book, but the plot holds the tension the whole time.
I did struggle with the narration style. There are many, many short (two to three words) sentences, each in a new line. This is my personal preference, that I don't enjoy that as much.
I recived an ARC of this book trough NetGalley.
