I love this author’s books because you always get a bit of a spooky, ghostly read, and I really enjoyed this one. Elin and her sister Nerys never got closure on their mum, who went out one evening and never came home. That night there was a bad storm, and a young man also went missing. The police said the sea took them, but their Nan never got over it. Elin leaves the village to start a new life with her partner, Cai. When Cai is working on a dig in her home village, he is killed in a hit-and-run, so Elin returns to her old town. I won’t say more, but it’s so good—very twisty!

The Echoes in the Cabin is a haunting, atmospheric thriller that blends grief, memory, and the uncanny in a way that lingers long after you finish. From the moment Elin returns to the windswept coast of Anglesey — the same place where her mother was lost to the sea — the story wraps itself in a quiet, aching tension.

The grief hologram concept is such an intriguing hook. At first, it feels like a gentle, futuristic comfort: a digital reconstruction meant to soothe the bereaved. But the shift from solace to something far more sinister is handled beautifully. When the avatar begins to behave in ways it shouldn’t, speaking words that cut straight through Elin’s fragile calm, the book takes on a chilling new dimension.

The coastal setting is wonderfully done — eerie, isolated, and full of echoes. You can almost feel the salt wind and hear the waves crashing as Elin starts to suspect that the recent tragedy and her mother’s death are connected. The sense of being watched, of something old and unresolved stirring beneath the surface, builds steadily and effectively.

What I loved most is how the story balances emotional depth with creeping suspense. Elin’s grief feels real and raw, and that vulnerability makes the unfolding mystery even more gripping. The blend of psychological tension and subtle supernatural elements creates a compelling, unsettling atmosphere.
