Description

Set in the context of a search for a serial killer, a streetwise psychologist with a social conscience - Dr. David Edminson - treats denizens of the night in his van on the streets of LA's skid row between the hours of 9 PM and 5 AM.

He works with his best friends, an LAPD detective and an ER physician; they are all NY transplants committed to social justice and wanting to make a difference.

Similar to his patients, Dr. Edminson has built his life on a narrative created in childhood. While working on the case of a serial killer of prostitutes and strippers, he learns that his adored grandfather may not have been the great man he thought he was. Dr. Edminson then goes on a journey to discover the truth about his life and the family from which he has been estranged.

What he learns shakes the very foundation upon which he has built his life sending him into an existential crisis.

I consider this a fairly good read. Enough action to keep it from being boring. A quick read.

Dr David Edminson is a psychologist trying to make a difference in the lives of those who live on the fringe of society and who would not normally seek conventional treatment for their mental disorders. He works during the night which is when most of his clients are available treating them from his van along with two of his friends. A serial killer is targeting women of a tawdry nature, prostitutes and strippers, those women that might not be missed so quickly and as Dr Edminson becomes involved in the search for this killer he begins to learns things about his family that make him question the person he had thought himself to be. Great read. I would like to thank the Publisher and Net Galley for the chance to read this ARC.

He is a different kind of shrink. He works 9 to 5. 9pm to 5am and on the streets of Skid Row. He also has what he calls his day clients which he sees in his office, these are the appts before 11pm. He grew up in a rough area of The Bronx. Goes back home 20 years later to learn more about his grandfather who he adored but isn't who he thought he was. Hope to see more of this shrink and his friends, the cop and the doctor and his girl friend the exotic dancer.

Dr. David Edminson is a psychologist with a twist. He works out of a van parked on the streets of Skid Row between the hours of 9 AM and 5 AM. He treats the homeless, the mentally ill, the downtrodden, the prostitutes, anyone who needs his help. These are the night people ... whose lives are so different from the majority of us. Along with childhood friends, an LAPD detective and an ER physician, they all work to make a difference.

Someone is killing strippers and prostitutes ... but only if they are blond and beautiful, and only if they work at one particular nightclub.

David is called in by the LAPD to possibly work up a profile. As it happens, he knows the victims or at least knows of them.

I really like the character of David. He's so honest and so caring. He humanizes the night people. As he says .... they all have a story, they just need someone to listen.
David takes a break in the middle of this investigation to do one of his own in New York City ... that of his own family, his grand-father in particular. David's family, while maybe not dysfunctional, has been emotionally distant. David takes a trip back in time to when his grandfather was still alive. What he finds out about his family changes everything he believed himself to be.

It is this revelation and the knowledge that he knows who the killer is in LA, that sends him flying back double time.

The story line is quite unique and well-written. David's friends are quite likable, as is Max...David's girlfriend. I can see this one as being the beginning of a series.

Many thanks to the author / Createspace Independent Publishing Platform / NetGalley who provided a digital copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Prostitutes are being murdered by a serial killer in Los Angeles’ skid row. Dr. Edminson an unconventional psychiatrist who sees patients out of his van in the wee hours of the night, goes on a journey of self-realizations while finding the killer. I am not a big fan of psychological thrillers but this one did hold my attention. I will definitely recommend it.
