Description
Three men walked into a casino. Only two survived the night...One week. Twelve jurors. Two verdicts. A routine jury summons turns into something far more serious… and far more personal. In The Reluctant Juror, what starts as an inconvenience becomes a front-row seat to a case where nothing is as simple as it seems. Three men enter a casino together. Seventy minutes later… a body is found. No weapon. No witnesses. No clear answers. Just a timeline that doesn’t add up — and twelve strangers forced to decide what really happened. Told from inside the jury box, this gripping courtroom drama pulls you into the tension, the doubt, and the unspoken pressure of deciding someone’s fate. Every piece of evidence matters. Every inconsistency stands out. And every juror sees something different. Because the truth isn’t always obvious…but it’s always there. Based on a true jury deliberation, The Reluctant Juror is a sharp, thought-provoking look at justice, perception, and the moments that change everything. More than a courtroom drama, this is a breakdown of how people think, what they miss, and what it really takes to decide guilt. What would YOU decide!

Thoroughly enjoyed it.

This was a quick read and mostly because I didn't want to put it down. I've never heard of this case so hearing the perspective from the juror made it an interesting way to lean about a case. When we watch cases live we have access to more information and context than the jurors get. The ending solidified the importance of jurors not doing their own research and only considering what they see in evidence and what was presented during trial.
This book was written in a way that I really could hear the voice of the author. It's not a style that I normally like, because it felt choppy and less fluid, but it really added to the story. I could hear the voices and tones better this way.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an early copy in exchange for an honest review. I am fascinated by stories about the legal system. Usually these are told from the perspective of the prosecution or the defense, so it was a very refreshing change to read a book from the perspective of a juror. The fact that it was based on a real case made it that much more interesting. This is a short little novella that can be read in an hour or two, but I found the thought process and the trial logistics to be a very fascinating aspect of the story. I have not served on a jury, but I feel like I have a very solid understanding of what that role entails after reading this book. In fact, it would be great if it was required reading for everyone assigned jury duty, as it gives a very fair and balanced understanding of this civic responsibility and the weight this role carries in society to make sure justice is served but also only to those who truly committed the crimes.

Loved hearing authors experience as a juror. I had to serve on a murder case and was interested in his. Great observation. Super informative and fun book.
Thanks to author, publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book. While I got the book for free it had no bearing on the rating I gave it.

Excellent courtroom drama told from a unique perspective.. When the facts of the case don't add up, the jurors must figure out whodunit.

Reading this book is very different from any usual court type novels. The cadence of the story is much what I expect in a trial. (Please note, I’ve never been called for jury duty, but this is what I would anticipate it to be.)
A man gets a summons at exactly the moment he really doesn’t want to serve AGAIN. He feels he’s been selected often recently and somehow his name is on a list.
He gets chosen for a trial and so begins our story.
It’s one trial, 12 jurors, one decision to be made. The story may appear to be about this trial, but the underlying message is different and was so well written.
