The first thing I did after reading this book was to give my own cat a big, long hug.

Miro shows us the human experience through a very unique perspective, that of a cat. He looks at the world with curiosity and an intuitive understanding of what is going on. As a cat, Miro sees things that we don't and other things he just doesn't care about while we think them important.

This is a story with many emotional ups and downs, moments of despair and moments of great tenderness. It tells us about the duality of humanity and how that duality often shows in how we care for our animals.

The book is beautifully written, with many profound moments. Miro is so loveable and you will root for him throughout the whole book (and be very angry at some other characters). I will be thinking about this book for a long time.

Princess Fuzzypants here: This book should come with a warning. There will be danger of leaky eyes on the emotional rollercoaster of Miro’s life. There was a point early on when we were not sure if we could continue but I am glad we forged ahead. Miro’s mother did not have the loving care that my mother did. In ,fact, the horrible people who “owned” her used her as a breeding tool to sell her adorable kittens. The way they were treated was appalling. So Miro and his siblings had no chance until they were, hopefully, adopted by good humans.

This book does not pull punches. It shows humans in all their forms: the good, the bad and the ugly. Life starts to look good once he is adopted by Sarah. She gains his trust and his love but all that is shattered by her poor choice in mate. Her boyfriend goes from being vaguely unpleasant to alarming to outright dangerous which leads Miro onto the streets in fear for his life. What he finds there makes him question his choice to run away but just when he thought there were no good people in the world, his life turns 180 degrees and he is welcomed into a warm and safe home.

There are still some sad changes that he must get through but in the end, life is pretty good for this handsome little cat. As it should be. Five purrs and two paws up.
