Description

Ghost Hauler A Novel | Stephen Van Olsen | The Nikkie Group LLC

The FBI's Highway Serial Killings Initiative has linked over 850 murders to long-haul truckers. Ghost Hauler takes you inside the cab of one of them.

For decades, Stephen Van Olsen has driven America's interstates: clean logbooks, polite small talk at truck stops, a growing collection of teeth in his glovebox. He hides in plain sight while the ghosts of his victims ride shotgun, their voices growing louder with every mile.

Told entirely from the killer's calm, methodical point of view, Ghost Hauler is a psychological deep-dive with no heroes and no redemption arc. The prose is spare and declarative, the dread relentless. Van Olsen doesn't explain himself. He doesn't need to.

Readers who questioned whether The Hunter's Craft was actually fiction will find that same unnerving quality here: a narrator so credible, so banal, that the horror lands not in the acts but in the ordinary miles between them.

Ideal for fans of: Thomas Harris, Jim Thompson, Donald Ray Pollock, and true-crime style killer narratives.

Standalone novel. No prior reading required. Also Book 2 in the Stephen Van Olsen series.

A companion album is available on all major streaming platforms.

A Note From the Publisher

Ghost Hauler is grounded in authentic detail. The author is a long-haul truck driver with firsthand knowledge of America's interstates, truck stops, and the culture of life on the road. That authenticity is what gives the narrator's voice its unsettling credibility. This is not a procedural. There are no heroes. The FBI closes in, but the road belongs to Stephen Van Olsen.
Ideal for readers who want to be disturbed in the best possible way.

This is a very well-written book. It flows beautifully, with a rhythm tailored to a thriller. The dialogue is very good as well: natural and convincing. The prose is strong. Consider the opening of one chapter: "A red-haired man with freckles showed me how to use his tools. I took lessons. Then I took his tools."
It is brilliant.
My only criticism is that moments of this quality are not frequent enough. Punchy, declarative lines in the manner of Cormac McCarthy can be highly effective, but an overabundance of them can diminish their impact. Overall, this is a really solid book.

This supernatural thriller delivers an eerie atmosphere and an intriguing premise from the very beginning. The blend of horror and mystery worked well, and the tension steadily increased throughout the story. A few plot twists surprised me, making this an entertaining read for fans of paranormal suspense.

This book an absolute masterpiece. I really didn't think it would be able to top the previous book, but I was wrong. I wish I could give it 6 stars. I really loved seeing the nice, human side of Stephen throughout the book. Like helping a young child find a home or providing money to a woman that is homeless and struggling. It showed that he still had a heart and wasn't just a monster.
I loved that the ending chapter that summarized all the kills, including the ones that didn't have a full story associated with it. It painted a really nice timeline over the 18 year period. As I stated in my previous book review, this is for sure going to be an autobuy author for me and I will read anything he puts out. Im really looking forward to a 3rd book!

My favorite qoute from the book: "Coincidence is a language for people who aren't paying attention. I was paying attention."

Thank you to Netgalley, Steven Van Olsen, and the Nikkie Group for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest feedback and opinion.

This has to be one of the creepiest novels I've ever read. It really is written well. At times, I really felt that this could be real. I had goose bumps. The ghosts of the victims got to me, even if some were the dredges of society. Even with it being creepy and disturbingly feeling true, it's a good book. This is a very well-written book. It flows beautifully, with a rhythm tailored to a thriller. The dialogue is very good as well: natural and convincing. The prose is strong. This is exactly the type of book I love to read. I had to pick up the first one by the author because of this book. I will definitely keep reading more books by this author.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley.
