A solid 4 step guide on how to draw a handful of dinosaurs for kids. More of a book for kids in elementary school or with slightly advanced drawing skills. But overall kids love dinosaurs so I think this would be a good nonfiction addition to a library.

5/5 stars.

Not only is this educational, it also works! I am very drawing challenged, and I was able to follow along with this enough to understand and *basically* successfully draw these dinosaurs!

My daughter loves to improve her drawings and she always loved dinosaurs. I thought this book to be a good fit. The book it self has a good build. Every dinosaur takes around 6-7 pages. It contains 2 small facts and how to draw. Always start with shapes and make it more detailed. It is a good book and she loves trying them.
I would like to thank the author and Netgalley for sharing the ebook with me.

Who doesn't love dinosaurs?!

This book is a great drawing book for all ages, showing the steps to drawing the fearsome classics - Trex, Velociraptor, Stegosaurus, Diplodocus and more - from blocky shapes where you can play with proportions to the finished product coloured and highlighted.

There's not a lot of explanation about perspective and proportions, but its a great jumping off point for beginner artists and dino-fans to learn how to draw their favourite prehistoric animals beyong a basic stick figure.

And once you've got the basics down for the classic dinos, you can use these as a launchpad for other dinosaurs. This will be a lot of fun come Dinovember....

I love the concept of this book. I draw lunch box notes for my son during the school year and am always looking for step by step drawing instructions to help me. I enjoyed how this book breaks it down with simple boxes to start out. It makes the shape much more manageable. Thank you NetGalley!

A shorter book of how to draw several popular dinosaurs.

I wish there had been a few more steps in each how-to, or perhaps a section before the official drawings begin, detailing how to do things like shading and how it works, or how to smooth out the lines. The book tells you to do these things and shows an image of it done, but does not tell you how. While I, an adult, know how to do these things, a young child might not.

Despite this, the drawings look great! Each dinosaur is carefully crafted b ythe artist. Each comes with information about the dinosaur itself as well.

Love this how to draw book about dinosaurs. The steps are clear enough for a child who has some experience drawing. The dinosaurs become more detailed as each step progresses along with color ideas to finish. Great instructional guide!

While I got quite a few good dinosaur drawings out of “drawing dinosaurs” by Derrick Richard’s, I feel like it could have been a bit more simplified. If you’re very new to art, this might not be the dinosaur drawing book to pick up, but if you have the basics down already, it’s a good show of what to do to get what you want! Which is obviously, dinosaurs!!

Drawing Dinosaurs is a fun, accessible, and cool tutorial guide for drawing dinosaurs by Derrick Richards. Portions of the book were previously published as Learn to Draw: Dinosaurs by Jorge Santillan and Sarah Eason. All new material in this edition is by Derrick Richards. Due out 1st Aug 2026 from Rosen Publishing on their PowerKids Press imprint, it's 32 pages and will be available in library binding, hardcover, and ebook formats.

This is a how-to book. The sections and tutorials are grouped thematically and start with the very basic tools & supplies, and tips for getting started. Further chapters build on the skills from the earlier parts and include using color, and step-by-step tutorials.

The author has a very friendly and encouraging style of writing and the drawing lessons are not intimidating or difficult in any way. The booklet also includes some tips and tricks to get the artist in motion. Scattered throughout are highlighted text boxes with interesting facts about dinosaurs and ancient natural history.

The book seems to be slanted to a mostly younger audience, but there are super cool easy shapes step-by-step to credible drawing for all ages.

It would be a good choice for public or school library acquisition as well as home use. It would also make a lovely gift, perhaps bundled with some art supplies. Highly recommended for folks who regularly interact with small children as well to learn to draw something which will delight and impress the smalls.

I received this book courtesy of NetGalley for the purpose of a fair and honest review.

Overview: Let's draw some dinosaurs! This book gives us around six different dinosaurs to draw, with the steps to draw the dinos. Will we succeed? Let's find out.

Dislikes: This is not a book for a beginner. We make some serious jumps in the stages of how to draw the dinosaurs.

Likes: These are good dinosaurs to start with.

Conclusion: This is a good book for kids, and others, who have gotten past the early stages of drawing. If you have a dino fan in the house, then this book is for you. Enjoy the read.

A fun and creative book that gives step by step directions to drawing your favorite dinosaur. I do think that any kid could easily follow the illustrations to draw, but I do feel the wording to describe the steps would be best for older kids or with assistance from a grown up. This was cute and my own children (ages 7 & 8) enjoyed it.
