More Than Just a List of Hobbies

🎮📚✨

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC.

This was a surprisingly thoughtful book for young gamers. Rather than simply listing hobbies children might enjoy, it takes the extra step of explaining what those hobbies are and how kids can get started with them. As a parent of a child who loves gaming, I appreciated that the book focused on expanding interests rather than replacing gaming altogether.

The suggested hobbies felt relevant and accessible, and I found myself making connections between gaming and other activities that I hadn’t considered before. The colorful illustrations and photos of kids participating in the hobbies helped keep the content engaging, and the information was presented in a way that felt appropriate for the target age range of grades 2–4.

What worked best for me was that the book respected both its audience and the topic. It never felt like it was talking down to young readers or treating gaming as a problem that needed to be fixed. Instead, it encouraged curiosity and exploration while offering practical ideas for kids looking to try something new. 4 stars.

Who Should Read It: Young gamers looking for new interests, parents searching for activity ideas, and educators who want to help children explore hobbies beyond their usual routines.
