Five Voices by Tamara Moss (Allen & Unwin) is such a standout for me! It's a full five‑star hit across all my favourite elements: podcast angle, five friends with tangled secrets, and a proper whodunit that kept me second‑guessing everyone. I devoured it in two days. The multiple narratives threw me off at first, but once I settled in, I was fully locked in. Every character felt real, flawed, and hiding something messy, which made the whole story feel alive and unpredictable.

What really worked for me was how the tension built without giving away too much too soon. Each character added a new shade to the mystery, and the pacing kept me turning pages. It’s twisty, character‑driven, and emotional in a way that makes you feel like you’re right there with them. Since it’s not out until the 1st of September, I’ll keep this spoiler‑free. Trust me, it’s gripping, clever, and absolutely worth the read.

🌟🌟🌟🌟 – I loved this

This book was a page-turner once it got going. It was intriguing and fresh.

Five teenagers at the helm of a popular podcast. Then one of them dies shortly after a recording. Suddenly, Rosie, Zac, Ocean, and Simone are suspects in William’s murder.

I liked how the book swapped between Rosie, Zac, Ocean, and Simone’s POV. However, it did take me awhile to wrap my head around each of their lives. (You might want to take notes! 😆)

I adored the snippets of podcast transcripts between chapters. They often revealed something about the way the four interacted with William.

The main thing that stopped this from being a 5 star read was the pacing. Some parts of this book dragged for me.

A couple of years ago, 5 friends started a podcast where they play a game and have a debate. The book starts 1 hour and 13 minutes before one of them is murdered and spends the rest of the book jumping between pre and post murder, whilst also jumping between the point of views of the four remaining members, as everything they know begins to unravel. The very first page “one shard is not found until three weeks later” had me really invested at the end of the book, because I wanted to know where it was (and I wasn't expecting the answer). Whilst Rosie is basically the main character, we get the viewpoints of all four friends as we learn all the reasons as to why they may each want William dead. This is a book where reading the text under each chapter title is vital, as it tells you where in the timeline you are, because whilst their post murder moves forward there is a lot of jumping around in the past. There's plenty of teen drama in this as well, as they navigate romantic relationships, their friendships with each other as well as sex, suicide and family. There was a couple of moments where I felt a little too disjointed but this was an excellent mystery and really had me wanting to find out who was the killer.
