Description
Writer Elizabeth "Lizzy" Hornwhistle and her waggish dachshund Mavis find themselves hobnobbing with the rich and famous at Kirkland Schwartz's luxury desert oasis.
Kirk's friendship, his professional chef, and his glorious saltwater pool are just what Lizzy needs to unwind. But Kirk, known for his eccentric celebrity clients and extravagant parties, decides to surprise her with a weekend mystery event.
What begins as a game of murder becomes very real. The victim, universally disliked and feared, is no surprise to anyone. The complete isolation from the outside world is.
Lizzy soon discovers nothing is as it seems. Secrets, betrayals, and romance emerge as the body count climbs. She and Kirk must race to discover the culprit before one of them is next.
Through it all, Mavis sniffs out clues and wreaks havoc as only a dachshund can do.
Advance Praise
"Snappy prose, a trail of twisted clues, and an addictive storytelling pace make this another high-quality escape from Kanaka and her detective duo. Though the presence of the dog detective may seem like the mystery is lighter fare, Kanaka is fully adept at building suspense, for a tale that is at once comforting and gripping." So cute love the storyline love the character development. I will definitely be looking into more books by this author and I’m so so happy at the dachshund on the cover that is technically what first sold me to look at this book very smart idea.
This was a strong fourth entry in the Cozy Mysteries with a Dash of Dachshund series, it had that cozy mystery element that I was looking for. I was engaged with what was happening and thought the mystery worked well overall. The characters felt like they were supposed to and felt like they belonged in this series. I'm excited to read more from Alice Kanaka as this and the previous books worked overall.
