Description
Tumble down the mountainside with woodland creatures in this wonderfully out-of-control celebration of winter.
Field mouse decorates a tree.
She squints and says, “What’s that I see?”
Here comes snowflake. Rumble, rumble.
There goes field mouse. Tumble, tumble.
A snowflake lands on a mountaintop. It flips and flops, tumbling down into the valley below. First it rolls over Field Mouse, then Rabbit. And that’s when things really begin to snowball.
With hilarious, brightly colored twists and turns from author Nicole Castrovinci and illustrator Vivian Mineker, Snowballed is a wonderfully out-of-control celebration of winter. Packed with adorable woodland creatures and winter activities, this picture book is a lesson in what happens when life runs you over and how you can bounce back with positivity.
Because when the snowball finally stops? It turns into a million snowflakes!

This was super cute and I look forward to reading it in story time. The artwork is beautiful and the story length is perfect. I loved the little characters and how it was a winter book but not necessarily a holiday book. Thank you NetGalley!
Snowballed is a delightful winter picture book with a playful rhythm and a wonderfully energetic read-aloud quality. I really enjoyed this one. The illustrations are easy to follow, beautiful, and make sense with the story.
The rhyming works well, which is so important in a children’s book like this. It has a natural bounce to it, and the writing makes it easy to read with feeling, expression, and clear articulation. It was a very fun book to read aloud to my child, especially because the story has movement, humour, and that growing sense of chaos that children often love. I found myself reading it passionately and intuitively, which made my child want to read it again right away.
I also liked the wintry atmosphere and the sense of things getting bigger and sillier as the story goes on. It feels light, fun, and engaging, while still being well-structured enough to keep the read-aloud experience smooth.
A charming and lively picture book that would work especially well for storytime, winter-themed reading, or any child who enjoys rhyming stories with energy and movement. Easily a five-star children's book.
This book would be a lovely introduction to a winter unit in my PreK classroom. Sequencing and art activities could be created to use in tandem with this book. The kids would love the rhyming cadence and repetition of "rumble, rumble" and "tumble, tumble".
Thank you to Netgalley, Familius, and the author, Nicole Castrovinci, for the eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
What a fabulous illustrated children’s book! This one would be a hit for sure with young kids with imagination and a love for a story that keeps them actively engaged.
The wintry environment this is set in is given away by the book title. Snowballed indeed! A snowball is powering through the landscape and collecting all types of animals as it goes. It’s so much fun and the illustrations are stunning. Bright, full of life and lots to look at.
This has a great pace to it and the rhyming is spot-on. If rhyming is chosen for children’s books but executed badly you get no satisfying flow when reading to young children or self-readers taking it in themselves.
Overall a fun and energetic story that will easily captivate little attention spans and put smiles on little faces. 5 stars for this one from me.

A delightful children's book that is perfect for the winter season! The charming illustrations are sure to capture young readers' attention and keep them engaged from beginning to end. The story is easy to follow, making it an enjoyable read for children and adults alike.
What makes this book especially appealing is its warmth and playful spirit. It's the kind of story that quickly becomes a family favorite—one that children will eagerly pull from the shelf and ask to hear again and again. I can easily imagine my nephews requesting repeated readings of this sweet and entertaining tale.

This is a silly story, but very well done - great rhymes, adorable pictures. I think kids will giggle through the whole story. My favorite page is in the middle, where the snowball arrives at a ski chalet and picks up a hot cocoa stand and other fun things. Lots of cute animals in this book.

Snowballed is a delightfully cute silly rhyming story. It has a sweet soft illustration style that catches the eye and the scenes were timed just right to be both comical and add to the story. The rhyming was done so well and added to this story.
A silly fun winter story that would make a great bedtime story.

This is one of my daughter's nee favorite books! She loved repeating the lines after me and pointing out the different animals and objects in the illustrations. Its easy to read and flows very nicely, which I really appreciate as an ECE teacher. This would be a great addition to my winter circle time books.
Thanks to NetGalley for the eARC!

Snowballed immediately drew me in with it's beautiful illustrations and lyrical words. It's a fun whimsical story about woodland animals getting caught in an avalanche. The ending does feel sudden, but also the most chaotic days do feel like they come to a sudden end. It would be a great winter read aloud for any early childhood classroom.
This is such a cute, silly story about animals getting caught in a giant snowball. I absolutely love the illustrations! They're adorable and cozy, and the color palette is calm and soothing without being too boring. Truly a perfect book for wintertime!

Snowballed is delightful! I am always in need of winter books that aren't necessarily holiday themed. The repetition through the story will make it accessible to the youngest of listeners and the artwork will captivate all audiences.
My kids LOVED this book! It has the perfect amount of silliness to keep their attention. The illustrations are beautiful - we spent a considerable time just looking at all of the things happening in the background of the scenes. I like that this is a winter book but not necessarily themed to a holiday. This will absolutely be on our list to re-read seasonally!
Nicole Castrivinci’s Snowballed is pure joy and giggles for little learners!
I read this with a group of four-year-olds, and it was an absolute hit from start to finish!
The bouncy, rhythmic text is incredibly engaging. The children had a wonderful time finding all the rhymes hidden throughout the text. The story sparked so much interactive fun; the kids were on the edge of their seats, eagerly guessing which animal might get scooped up next into the growing snowball.
The entire room giggled throughout the reading. The illustrations are incredibly cute, bright, and full of charming details that kept everyone visually hooked.
As a bonus, the book inspired some fantastic hands-on creativity! After reading, the students had a blast making their own play-doh snowballs and hiding little objects inside them, mirroring the story perfectly.
This is an exceptional choice for circle time, early childhood classrooms, or cozy bedtime reading. Highly recommended!

So cute! So fun! My daughter thought it was hysterical. So did I! A really fun readaloud with adorable art. I loved the page with the snowflakes first joining up to make the snowball. My daughter loved the page where the entire band gets stuck. There's such great things to see on every page!

Snowballed will be fun for a whole class to read together. It has a great pace, and moves along building up excitement; what happens next? There are various events and characters which is also a good platform to introduce discussions about setting, conflict, and resolutions. Or, Snowballed can be used to introduce a science lesson about weather, or to just entertain students on a snowy school day. I enjoyed this one!
A wonderful book with great rhymes. The illustrations are adorable and the color palette makes the book feel cozy. This is a great book for story time, especially in winter. I can't wait to recommend to families and use it in displays.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Snowballed by Nicole Castrovinci and illustrated by Vivian Mineker was super cute and fun! The story itself is very simple, in the best way. Yes, you can use it to demonstrate to kids that sometimes bad or scary or just plain inconvenient things happen and we can bounce back from them, but it can also just be a silly story. The rhyming and the mad-cap nature of it all made it very enjoyable to read.
Vivian Mineker’s illustrations were adorable and felt so cozy and wintry. They are simple, again in the best way, and fit the story perfectly. The whole thing is just delightful and silly. A perfect classroom or library read for the winter season.
