Suitably light-hearted phonetics volume regarding -ug words, with a whimsical drama regarding a bug that seems to do anything but sit on the "bug rug" – the true nature of which provides a laugh for the adult sharing this, at least. Can the narrator get their wish that the smug bug is snug on the bug rug? It's for extremely young readers, of course, and serves them well, although the illustrations really are at quite a basic level, and once again there's no true indication of any 'Mat' in this. Thus endeth the smug plug – I dug this.
Excellent book for emerging readers. The rhyming is helpful. My son will be in second grade next school year and this was a great review for him. There were a few words he hadn't seen before but was easily able to figure out because of the rhyming and photos.
