Description

A lyrical, rollicking voyage with one little boat, a loving family, and the sea creatures of Alaska

From the bestselling team that brought us All Aboard the Alaska Train and The Littlest Airplane, One Little Fishing Boat is a rhythmic, cumulative picture book that takes readers on a lively voyage across the sea. A small skiff sets out with a family aboard, nets ready for the day’s catch. Along the way, the boat encounters puffins, otters, seals, belugas, and even a mighty orca—all searching for snacks in the wide, blue sea. As clouds gather and storms roll in, the family huddles close and holds steady, showing that even the smallest boat can be safe and strong. With playful, repeating refrains, lyrical rhyme, and dynamic illustrations, this book captures the wonder of Alaska’s waters and the creatures that live there. Complete with engaging back matter on fishing traditions and marine life, One Little Fishing Boat is both a joyful read-aloud and an educational introduction to sustainable fishing practices. Perfect for fans of nautical adventures, books about nature, and family bonding at sea.

A sweet, lyrical cumulative picture book following a little skiff and its family crew out across Alaskan waters, where they encounter puffins, otters, seals, belugas, and a mighty orca before a storm rolls in and the family holds steady together.

The illustrations are beautiful — dynamic and full of life, capturing the wonder of Alaska’s waters really well. The rhyme and repeating refrains make it a solid read-aloud, and the back matter on fishing traditions and marine life is a nice bonus.

My five year old was a little less captivated than I expected, but I found it genuinely cute and the illustrations alone make it worth a look for fans of nautical adventures and nature-themed picture books

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A simple, sweet story about fishing in Alaska and all the native animals you can find in the sea. I could definitely envision using this book for story-time at my library because of the rhyme patterns, fun action words and phrases to expressing dramatically, and it's the perfect length for littles. I also appreciated the use of boating terms throughout the book, as well as the glossary with definitions in the back of the book.

Advance Reader Copy Review:

One Little Fishing Boat has full-color/ full-page illustrations, accompanied by rhyming and rhythmic text. The scenes are drawn in a variety of perspectives: floating on top of the water, split view (above/below the waterline), and from underneath.

The introduction of animals are what would realistically be found during a fishing trip near Alaska and are very appealing to littles! As each animal is introduced, it is included in the rest of the pages. The introduction of vocabulary words for fishing are incorporated smoothly (and the glossary in the back is perfect for reviewing with littles!). A really fun read and definitely one that I’ll be purchasing for our library system.

Note: I received a free copy of this ebook from the publisher via NetGalley. My review is my own. #NetGalley

I love this book. It talks about fishing which is a good way for me to talk to my son about the food chain and that we do eat fish and animals like orcas eat fish. He is four and such an animal lover and this book shows so many animals that they share the ocean and the food. I think it is a wonderful book with beautiful illustrations that can lead to so many wonderful conversations.

I would highly recommend this book! It is rhyming and rhythmic, and beautifully illustrated. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital ARC. This did not impact my review. My son is a huge fan of animals and this book talks about animals that you could encounter in the ocean near Alaska. It is a cute and educational book!
