4.5 ⭐️ I am so excited to see this Sci-Fi romantic novella series finally in a completed omnibus! It does really well in the world building while making it easily digestible and not overwhelming for how quickly we move through the story. The heist plot is a lot of fun with some surprises here and there, and I was obsessed with the yearning between the two main characters.

The third part in the trilogy is the one that I personally felt was the weakest. I think I was just expecting a little bit more to finishing off the series. However, I still think these are great for a sci-fi romantic quick read!

Chaotic Orbits was such a fun surprise and reminded me why I need to pick up more science fiction.

Sci-fi can sometimes feel intimidating with complicated world-building and endless technical jargon, but Beth Revis strikes the perfect balance. The world is immersive without ever becoming overwhelming, making it incredibly easy to fall into the story, even if you don’t usually read the genre.

What I loved most was how much personality this series had.

It’s funny, fast-paced, and full of witty dialogue, but beneath all the humour are genuinely high stakes that kept me completely invested. The heist storyline was so entertaining, and there were enough twists throughout that I never quite knew where things were heading.

I also adored the romance.

It’s definitely subtle rather than taking centre stage, but the slow-burning tension and yearning between the two main characters added so much emotional depth. Sometimes less really is more, and I found myself looking forward to every interaction between them.

The omnibus edition is absolutely the way to experience this series.

Reading all three novellas back-to-back made the story flow so naturally, and it almost felt like reading one complete novel rather than three separate instalments. I honestly don’t think I would have wanted to stop between each novella.

The third instalment wasn’t quite as strong as the first two for me, and I found myself hoping for just a little more from the conclusion. Even so, it wrapped everything up in a satisfying way and certainly didn’t take away from how much I enjoyed the overall journey.

Overall, Chaotic Orbits is cosy, clever, action-packed, and incredibly accessible. Whether you’re already a science fiction fan or someone who usually sticks to romance or fantasy, I’d absolutely recommend giving this series a chance.

If you enjoy witty banter, space adventures, heists, slow-burn romance, lovable characters, and science fiction that never feels overwhelming, this is definitely one to add to your TBR. 🚀✨💙

I read the three novellas contained in this book individually and I was thrilled to be approved for the compilation. It's going to be so much easier to force everyone I know to read them now that they're in a single book! Ada and Rian's story is every bit as exciting and hilarious upon re-read, and the bonus chapters at the end make me very hopeful we'll get a sequel. Ada is a slippery, conniving smartass and possibly my favorite heroine ever. Her romance with Rian is so funny and charming, written in a way that leaves me craving more of it, and the substantial portions of this book dedicated to roasting Elon Musk are DEEPLY satisfying. It's only July but I feel comfortable declaring this my favorite book of the year. 5 stars with jazz hands.

My thoughts: I initially read the three novellas separately but having all three bound together definitely makes it easier to devour Ada and Rian's story in a single weekend. My thoughts simply are vibes and squealing because this reminds me of Firefly, and Rian is hilarious in how slowly he puts things together. But he grows on the reader really quickly. Ada has fast become one of my favorite manipulator characters. She’s always like 3 to 15 steps ahead of everyone and she has everyone running circles around her, except for one person, who is definitely not Rian. I loved the dynamics between Ada and Rian as he realizes how screwed he really is, and how smart Ada really is. I know the trilogy is done, but this is one series that I hope we maybe get another novella or novel about the characters after the final events of this book.

Oh my god. OH MY GOD. I opened this book and was immediately sucked in to Beth Revis' incredible first person narration - you want a scoundrel who is just as clever and devious as she thinks she is? Ada is that girl. What a fun, fast paced serial adventure with a stinger that leaves you screaming for more (it's happening, right? Please lord tell me it's happening?).

Chaotic Orbits is a delightful romp across the galaxy made into a masterpiece of sci-fi heists and spacemance through Revis' gift for dialogue (and monologue - really it's Ada's internal monologue that takes this book over the top). But this isn't just lighthearted japery (affectionate), there are moments of gravitas where Revis channels real history: I'm talking about the o-rings, about failsafes - about the story-ship the Rose and the real-ship the Challenger as an ongoing point of reference for the characters.

I loved Ada's occasional forays into space-existentialism (alien archaeologists in the far future finding a crashed spaceship in the deepest stratographic layers of their planet; only ever finding human ghost ships; a pharaoh's liver on a distant planet; etc) as a tacit reminder that this is a deeply intelligent woman and not just a wily (and lucky) criminal. Actually, I just love everything about Ada. I'm her lawyer and my client has done nothing wrong.

The villain. What an excellent example of Snidely Whiplash-ery that avoids cartoonishness by virtue of his similarity to certain South African trillionaire we know. Every step of the way when Ada hoodwinked him it filled me with a little 😏😎 energy and I think we all need a little more 😏😎 against the capitalist overlords in our lives.

Rian was the absolute silliest goose and Ada's magnetic attraction to him made perfect sense - here's a guy who genuinely believes in the morality of the state, living with the cognitive dissonance of recognizing corruption and is just about smart enough to keep up with Ada's game of 3D chess while still being at least one step behind. It was fun to imagine him banging his head against the wall after one of Ada's great escapes, and the epistolary sections at the end of each novella were the perfect way to include his perspective without interrupting or diverting Ada's flow.

This is a book for people who want exciting eco-futurism packaged in a series of brilliantly orchestrated multi-layered heists driven by a woman who knows more than you and won't fully let you in on it until she's ready to knock over the first domino (we love an unreliable narrator in this house!) I truly hope Beth Revis plans to continue writing the adventures of Ada and Rian because as Ada says,

"UNKNOWN: I know you love the chase.
UNKNOWN: Almost as much as you love me.
UNKNOWN: And if you want me, you’re going to have to come and get me."

I stumbled across the Chaotic Orbits series on NetGalley. It’s the space adventure that everyone needs to read. I took so long to read it because I was savoring each part of the novellas.

I’m in love with Ada and her rebellious nature. I need to know what happens with her and Rian. My biggest gripe is the giant cliffhanger and the end! Where is the freaking rest?!?

This book is the ultimate game of cat and mouse. It's certainly not a new trope, but this is by far the best I’ve ever seen it done. The banter and sexual tension is spot on, the way Ada stays ahead of the game is perfection, and I both want to hug Rian and smack him upside the head for not figuring things out sooner.

I love every single element of this book. It reminds me a lot of the relationship between Batman and Catwoman and also of one of my favorite tv shows, Leverage. The whole book is just so easy to slip into and absolutely hilarious. As I was reading it I would send random out of context screen shots to my sister just because everything Ada says is hilarious. She is the kind of woman I wish I was smart enough to be!

Chaotic Orbits is a new edition that collects three novellas and adds a new short story at the end. Still the three novellas flow easily into each other and I don’t think the reader will have any issues with that. Because of that set up the story is basically three different heists that are interconnected and none of the novellas stand alone.

Audiobook Review
I mixed listening to the novellas between audiobook and the new collection. The narrator is absolute perfection. However, because these were originally novellas, the audiobooks only seem to be available to each novella individually.

The imagination and creativity of people amaze me sometimes. This novella collection is fantastic in its character depictions, sweeping storylines, and realistic world-building—accomplished in each of the four novellas in 100 pages or less. Humorous, delightful, and also impactful. I can’t stop thinking about pigeons, and O-rings.

We hear mostly from Ada, so the memos at the end of the first three novellas are a nice touch as we see Rian’s POV of events. The style of hearing from him through government memos is so fitting for his character and a perfect touch by Revis. The contrast of the strait-laced government agent and the clever, charismatic con-woman leads to humorous encounters and witty banter. I loved it and couldn’t put it down.

Top tier banter. A cat and mouse game that plays out like a sensuous dance between just the two of them. I love that she's not technically doing anything illegal while turning his world on it's head. I love how much they are drawn to each other like two magnets. The commentary on our current political climate feels refreshingly hopeful while playing into how we feel about the people destroying our society and earth. I always love the idea of playing just outside the lines in order to do the right thing and save the world. They are just two of my favorite characters and I could read so much more about them. And I would be thrilled if we eventually revisited and got that happily ever after that feels like it's waiting just over the next bend.

Chaotic Orbits is a collection of three novellas, plus a short story, that was just so much fun to read! The main character, Ada, was so funny and sarcastic, and I loved the banter and tension with the MMC, Rian. While the stories are told from Ada's perspective, each one ends with memos from Rian, where he notes his thoughts on events, which was a fun way to get into his mind and also just perfect for his character. I also really enjoyed how each story built on the last one, and the short story at the end both left it open for more stories if the author chooses to do so in the future, but was also still a fun and satisfying ending.

It's an excellent romantic science fiction trilogy with a smart and sassy thief outwitting a shrewd government agent. Their chemistry is captivating and the dialogue is witty. As Ada says, “A little light banter couldn’t hurt the situation.”

This volume comes complete with a new cover designed by Jenna Stempel-Lobell and illustration by Dani Pendergast. It includes three previously published novellas - Full Speed to a Crash Landing, How to Steal a Galaxy, and Last Chance to Save the World - and the new short story, "One More Damn Thing." It keeps the same dedication, epigraph, and acknowledgments from the author, which are all just as spunky as the main character.

Revis has a gift of combining rich worldbuilding and magnetic characters with enchanting dialogue. There's so much left unexplored between these two characters and a great big universe for them to explore together. The bonus story in this omnibus is just a teaser of what I hope to see in the future. Readers will be obsessed with this series and want any other scraps she'll give us.

I highly recommend this book, and already have my eye on her first romantasy book coming out in June of 2027. It's part of her new The Winterflame Dragon duology, and I have no doubts it'll be fabulous. In the meantime, I have all her other books in my TBR. She's a must-read author for me - automatic buys for anything she writes. I've already purchased all of her non-fiction books on writing. And despite owning all three novellas - in hardcover editions autographed in person by Revis, and in audiobook formats - I have already preordered this omnibus. The cover is absolutely gorgeous and I can't wait to have it among my collection.

This Novella collection is fast paced and fun, lots of sharp back-and-forth banter between Ada and Ryan with mission reports and footnotes at the end of each Novella, and a plot that grows in layers and complexity. Also, there are pigeons in book three and as a fan I was delighted. The romance is definitely present and while this is a slow burn, we are not waiting for the chemistry to show up. You might enjoy this especially if you are a fan of heists and an enemy of trillionaires.

This book is fabulous! I am an avid romantasy reader, and I also love sci-fi (Star Wars, Star Trek, Dune). I've been having a hard time finding sweeping sci-fi romances, but I discovered Chaotic Orbits on Goodreads and just knew I had to read it. The characters are great, and I love the banter and the will-they won't-they dynamic. Thank you so much for the ARC read - I will be highly recommending this book!

Love the idea of a collection of novellas, and I enjoyed every single one! Kinda reminds me of watching episodic tv shows like adventure time or something where there’s an overarching plot but each episode has its own things going on that get resolved. A delicious character dynamic wrapped up in sci-fi heists and saving the planet, Chaotic Orbits is a fantastic collection of novellas.
I had read books 1 and 2 last year, but thoroughly enjoyed reading them both again as part of this. Ada is a fantastic protagonist to follow, especially on a reread as you really can see through her intentions in ways that make it even more entertaining. She is very much a liar in so many ways and I loved reading her.

The second big highlight of these books, of course, is Ada’s dynamic with Rian. They want each other so bad but know they absolutely should not go there. I lived for every time they were bantering with each other. Rian’s footnotes at the end of each novella are also fantastic.
I personally also really liked the angle these novellas take on how the Earth has been messed up by the climate, and the rich don’t care to actually help it. I would not be surprised if the rich asshole character was inspired by some real life rich assholes. It was a very satisfying read when it comes to that character.

And to my friends who are reading this going “but I hate sci-fi” or “but I hate heist novels” - absolutely do not let those aspects put you off this series. The character dynamic is well worth it I think regardless of your genre preferences. Plus they are so short, you should really give it a try.

I really enjoyed this collection of novellas. Originally, I listened to the audiobook version of the 3 novellas as they were released, but it was also great to read them all in one book. I really appreciate the added short story, but it made me want more from Ada, Rian, and this universe! Though these are novellas, there is so much action-packed into each novella. I really hope that Beth Revis revisits this universe soon and gives us more!

Chaotic Orbits is a series of three science fiction novellas originally published in 2024-25, now collected in this omnibus. Lovable rogue Ada Lamarr and steadfast government official Rian White play a cat-and-mouse game across the galaxy in this romantic sci-fi adventure.

Since all three novellas directly follow on from one another in terms of plot, collecting them into omnibus form was the perfect decision. The novella format means that there is very little fluff or filler, allowing the story to move forward at a rapid pace. Each individual novella follows a standard structure, where tension builds to a climactic event in the final quarter, but the stakes are raised appropriately in each subsequent volume.

The world building is embedded neatly into the text, and delivered gradually so as not to overwhelm the reader. While the romance certainly informs the plot, it doesn't replace it and there was a nice balance between the two.

Ada and Rian are genuinely refreshing characters. Ada, our point-of-view character, is sassy, snarky, and undoubtedly the pursuer in the relationship between her and Rian, a welcome subversion of common romance conventions. Both characters are highly intelligent, and the mind games they play with one another make for compelling back-and-forth dialogue. Ada can be a bit of a smart-arse, but she's easy to like and I really found myself rooting for her and Rian. Despite how hard she flirts with him, their romance is very slow-burn which I also loved! The secondary characters felt realistic and I found myself missing them when their role in the story was over, despite their limited page time as dictated by the format. I also enjoyed how much diversity there was even in the smaller cast.

I really don't have a single meaningful criticism about this omnibus; I had such a fun time reading it that I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a lighter romantic read with science fiction and heist elements.

If your fan of a heist, love story, like six of crows enjoy slow, burn, witty, better romances, you are going to love chaotic orbits! The story follows the protagonist Ada who is Galactic parrot. She’s chased by Rian who works for the Galactic government. The fall into a cat and mouse game following a nefarious billionaire's schemes. This is a set of three Novelas, and I loved every minute of reading these stories. Dialogue is concise and witty. The pacing is spectacular with quick moving action, quick reflection, and emotionally rich characters. I highly recommend this.

Chaotic Orbits is a collection of 3 previously published novellas of the adventure space opera romp with a romantic sub-plot. It's easy to absorb, full of humor and hijinks, and cat and mouse opposites attract romantic dynamic in a series of heists. It's a good pick for readers who want light sci-fi without hard tech and heavy jargon. It's fast paced and lighthearted in tone. The omnibus edition also includes a bonus short story from Rian's pov. I would be interested in seeing more of this couple and this world. Imagine Red Notice meets Murderbot, but with more romantic notes.

I hadn't read the original Chaotic Orbits novellas before so I was excited to explore a new space story in this omnibus, but I wasn't prepared for how much I would adore this story. I was really enjoying the first novella, Full Speed to a Crash Landing, and then the end had me HOOKED. I couldn't put the rest of the story down and had to finish it in one sitting.

I think with a lot of series' there is so much magic in the first book that the sequels don't quite live up, but How to Steal a Galaxy and Last Chance to Save the World were the opposite for me. The stories got so much stronger as they went on and as much as I wanted to see what would happen, I didn't want Ada and Rian's journey to end.

Ada was so captivating, I love characters with the right morals but who don't mind breaking some rules along the way (or in Ada's case, all of the rules). Rian is such an adorable, clueless (complimentary) love interest. I really appreciated that they ultimately had the same goals but were completely different in how they approached everything. Their banter was downright sexy at times and Ada's humour was so compelling, but despite that there was so much emotion in this story.

I really loved the additional chapters at the end and hope we have more to come from Ada and Rian in the future. Chaotic Orbits is a fast-paced space story with high stakes and a cat and mouse chase with an important message at its heart—what it means to be human.

Beth Revis delivers exactly what I love about science fiction: imaginative ideas, compelling characters, and an emotionally satisfying story. The world-building feels effortless, and the relationships add real heart to the larger narrative. I found myself completely immersed from beginning to end. A fantastic sci-fi novel that I would happily recommend to both longtime fans of the genre and newcomers alike.

This was such a fun read! I was hooked from the start. Despite being novellas, there’s so much packed in. They’re fast paced stories full of twists and turns, action and emotion. The space heists were great. Ada and Rian had fantastic chemistry and banter.

It was so easy to get immersed in this world! I would love if we get to see more of these two! I highly recommend if you’re looking for a high energy sci-fi with a bit of romance. Thank you to DAW for my early copy!

Chaotic Orbits by Beth Revis was such a fun, fast-paced and completely addictive collection.

Ada is honestly such a badass main character. She is sassy, determined, funny, independent, highly intelligent and full of schemes, but she still has morals. She’s the kind of character I would love to be on the Glory with, although I’m not sure I’d ever fully trust her with all the facts.

Rian was also a great MMC. He is trying so hard to do the right thing, but Ada challenges him constantly, and watching that tension build was one of my favourite parts of the collection.

I also have to mention Beth Revis’ dedications and acknowledgements, because they are brilliant. Her personality really shines through, and she has very quickly become an author I want to read more from.

Fast-paced, funny, clever, romantic, chaotic and full of brilliant sci-fi scheming. Four novellas in one, and honestly, Ada Lamarr has cemented herself as one of those main characters I could happily follow through many more books, and I was just as happy to watch her scheningins throughout these four:

Novella 1: Full Speed to a Crash Landing
“With one kiss, he’s taken the gravity right out from under me. But somehow, I’m not falling.”

This was easily my favourite of the collection. It was fast-paced, action-packed, hilarious and full of brilliant twists. I loved the different formats towards the end, especially the memos, chat logs and Rian’s footnotes. It made the story feel fresh and gave the whole thing so much personality. This really felt like the start of a cat-and-mouse game between Ada and Rian, a proper war of brains, wit and stubbornness, and I was completely here for it

Novella 2: How to Steal a Galaxy
“When will men realise that just because they speak doesn’t mean anyone’s listening?”

This kicks off straight after the events of the first novella, with Ada arriving at Oort Station for an exchange. What follows is a chaotic heist full of more scheming, more banter, and even more tension between Ada and Rian. Their chemistry is absolutely palpable, and despite their very different loyalties and beliefs, I was shipping them hard. Opposites attract and all that.

I also really liked how this novella explored people with extreme wealth and power. Strom is one of those characters you wish didn’t exist, but also know absolutely does. The kind of person who wants credit, control and glory, while hiding selfishness behind things they can pretend are humanitarian. That theme felt uncomfortably relevant.

Novella 3: Last Chance to Save the World
“Funny how there’s always someone who does the most but gets no credit, and how that’s usually a woman.”

This was another brilliant entry. I loved how much “the chase” became part of the story here, and the final few pages with Ada and Rian were chef’s kiss. Ada is so clever and tricky, and the plot twists and identity reveals were fantastic. I could so easily see this whole collection adapted into a sci-fi series. Out of the main three novellas, I still preferred the first, because it felt the most naturally funny and engaging, but this one was still a really strong read.

Novella 4: One More Damn Thing
“And a believer will follow a cause before they follow a law.”

This was such a refreshing little bonus. Having the POV switch to Rian was different, and I loved getting inside his head. Bless him, he has Earth’s best interests and his responsibilities at heart, but lust, love and Ada are slowly unravelling him. And of course, where Ada is involved, there is always another plan. That final line was brilliant.

All in all
I loved this collection, and I really hope there is more to come.

Let me start by saying that I read the 3 books in this trilogy as they were first being released, and already knew that I loved them. However, while I was screaming (in a good way) at the way the trilogy ended (those footnotes!!), I felt like the story wasn’t finished and I wanted more. So I loved seeing that this omnibus had an extra short story, to add to the original story.

Full Speed To A Crash Landing is my favourite of the stories. The crew of the Halifax and initial meeting between Ada and Rian is just top tier, and it had a twist I did not see coming. But the continuous banter and teamwork between them throughout the entire book was just so good. Ada is one of my favourite main characters I’ve read about, her humour especially is just so good. I laughed out loud multiple times reading this, and swooned a little bit (seriously, the footnotes).

I do feel like even with the addition of the short story to this omnibus, it doesn’t feel totally finished. But I genuinely love this. This was my 3rd time reading the full series, but I’ve reread Full Speed To A Crash Landing and How To Steal A Galaxy even more, in preparation for when each book was previously releasing. I think it gets even better each time, as I catch even more details. Definitely recommend, and I love that these novellas were combined so people can read one after another easier, because when I first read this I was desperate to continue the series immediately.

I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did. You will love this book if you enjoy romance and science fiction with a good dash of humor. I found Ada and Rian to be interesting characters and their interactions give me Firefly vibes. The plot of the three books and additional short story is part caper, part chaos, and part slow-developing relationship. The voicing of Ada is right up my alley. The elements of Science Fiction within these stories make them very accessible to readers newer to the genre.

So when I saw this collected edition on NetGalley, as "Read Now," with a bonus fourth novella (what's shorter than a novella? a novelette?), I pounced on it!  What a delight to be back with Ada & Rian!!!

And when I got to the end of the new novelette, I could not BE more excited, because this is clearly a set up for MORE Ada & Rian to come!  BRING IT!  I can hardly wait.

I adored Ada in these novellas! I loved how charismatic she was and how she used her charms to trick Rian. These characters were so great and I loved this story as a whole because they were unique and so creative. This collection of novellas was amazing!

I loved these novellas when I read them last year and had wished there was more - and now there is! The tension and cat-and-mouse chase between Ada and Rian is delightful and the three locations are fun and exciting in this quick-moving space opera. The ending of the third novella was open-ended, so I appreciated the new story from Rian's point of view but that ending! I hope more is coming from these two as they continue their adventure across the galaxy. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys con-person/rule follower romances, with a dash of justice and adventure.

The Chaotic Orbits novellas are one of my favorite series. I read each of them when they came out so I was so excited when I saw an omnibus edition was being released. Beth Revis is one of my favorite authors, and having Ada and Rian’s story all together in one beautiful edition is just so freaking cool.



Since this is an omnibus, I thought it’d be fun to share my thoughts on the series as a whole…



I was hooked from the start. Ada is a FMC who keeps you guessing. She’s clever, slightly morally gray and always seems to have a trick up her sleeve. Then there’s Rian who’s basically her complete opposite and their banter and chemistry is just so cute and such a huge part of what makes these books so much fun.



Even though these are novellas they really pack in the action, space heists, twists, romance (and a thoughtful look at things like climate change, technology and corporate greed). Revis somehow manages to fit all of that into a fast paced story that never stops being fun.



I was sad to see this series end and I’m still holding out hope that maybe someday we’ll get another adventure with Ada and Rian.



If you like fast-paced sci fi with cute banter, lovable characters, space heists and a smidge of romance…I can’t recommend Chaotic Orbits enough. This is the series that made Beth Revis one of my favorite authors!



Also, fun fact. Beth Revis said she wrote the first novella completely out of spite after someone told her she couldn’t write a short, fast paced commercial story. And the villain? She wrote him so Ada could say all the things she wishes she could say to Elon Musk. One of the many, many reasons she’s one of my favorite authors.

What a fun ride! Ada and Rian's cat and mouse game through out space is worth your time to read. The book is three novellas put together and it's the perfect merge of sci-fi, camp and a heist book. Ada's story slowly unravels throughout the three books and leaves you with a WHAT moment. Beth does a great job of world building without overwhelming the story. The perfect summer read for anyone who loves sci-fi!

Chaotic Orbits is exactly the book I’ve been looking for after a series of reading ‘misses’ this year. It’s fun, refreshing, and easy to breeze through. The world building is strong but subtle. Info dumping in sci-fi can be pretty common but there’s none of that here. The action and romance are perfectly balanced too. Honestly Chaotic Orbits is just super fun? I’ve been reading it on my lunch breaks at work during a stressful time and I found myself laughing a lot. Exactly what I needed. I will be championing this title!
