Description

How often do you think that the ‘90s and/or early 2000s was only ten years ago?

Andy Kent does all the time. He can’t help it; it’s the millennial in him. Maybe subconsciously he’s just wanting to go back to simpler times. He isn’t the only one, either. ‘90s and 2000s nostalgia pages are popping up left and right on Instagram, funneling in millennials by the millions for an escape back to BMX bikes, AOL Instant Messenger, MySpace, TRL, Abercrombie & Fitch, Limewire, Surge, and puka shell necklaces.

When Andy decides to go on a random Memorial Day drive, he has no idea where it’s leading him; he’s driving freely. But when a chance encounter happens, he ends up reliving his time as a thirteen-year-old during the summer of 2003. Summer camp. Gogurt. Girls. Burned CDs. Flashlight tag. Walkmans. Neighborhood drama over an iPod. He relives his time with the insanely popular hairstyle known as...

Although this is a work of fiction, the many references to the late 90s and early 2000s all ring true. From AOL Instant Messenger to the Mitsubishi Eclipse to Dawson's Creek, this book is filled to the brim with that thing we call nostalgia. Every generation has their own time frame of the good ol' days. This one is for all the millennials who had the patience to deal with their 56k dialup modem, who rolled their windows down blasting Limp Bizkit's Urban Assault remix of Rollin', who fawned over Carson Daly's hosting of TRL, who knew who the Noxema girl was, and remembered where they were or what they were doing on that fateful day of September 11, 2001.

Every millennial should read this book and reminisce of their childhood glory days. And if you're not a millennial, it's a good reference that might provide some answers as to why millennials are the way they are.

The only thing that could make this book better is if it wasn't actually a work of fiction and didn't just focus on a single summer. Otherwise, it hit the nail on the head for the nostalgic factor.

Thank you to Netgalley and Alexander J. Kirkland for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
