Description

Vampire Metta Blautsauger is known as the family airhead and she works hard to keep up the façade. It’s the perfect cover as she goes from dispensing her own brand of justice as a vigilante to an agent for Orcus, the Nosferatu shadow agency.

Captured, tortured, and left for dead, she is forced to leave both the agency and Lucas O’Cuinn, the mentor she’s grown to love.

For the last century she’s struggled with regret and boredom. Then her life is given new meaning when four mortal ministers ask her help in stopping a human trafficking ring. If Orcus discovers her unsanctioned involvement, they will brand her as a rogue. The penalty is death. It’s only a matter of time before Lucas arrives—stake in hand.

Lucas O’Cuinn has waited ninety-eight years for Metta’s return and he’s run out of patience. It’s time she remembers she belongs to him.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

Metta is a she-vamp. Her family thinks of her as ditzy and of basic intelligence. Her main goal in life according to them is to marry. Metta is much smarter then they think though and is nothing like she projects.

Metta is brought into Orcus, an organization that trains it's agents well. They are smart and deadly. They are basically assassins that work for the good of the vampire world. The founders of Orcus do not have a high opinion of women either so their training is more brutal then the men.

When Metta's mother dies, she re-signs and returns home to care for her younger brother. She leaves behind Lucas, her mentor/trainer. He is more to her as she is to him.

Metta had been bored and lonely since her youngest brother has come to age. He doesn't need her.
She is approached by a group of religious leaders to help them. It seems a ring that is abducting women and children, and are then selling them on the black market. The religious leaders know this because these are parishioners of the various churches. She is loving the challenge.

Almost a hundred years later Lucas returns to her life. He has been ordered to bring her back to Orcus. At first he just follows her, as he knows she is doing something dangerous. He even aids her a time or two, but she doesn't know this.

Around this time, a very dangerous enemy has escaped prison and all her family must be kept safe until he is re-captured. This does not stop Metta from her mission and keeps Lucas busy!

Will Metta and her family be safe from their enemy? Will Metta and Lucas finally talk?

I have to say that this was a strange book. I liked it but don't honestly think I would buy it.

Metta and Lucas' lives have basically stopped from when they left one another. They both thought the other would come back or get in touch but neither did. Both have many pent up feelings that need to be worked out. There are things that happened to affect both of their lives and they need to get through this. Others see the spark between them of course, but it will take time for them to resolve issues.

I like them as a couple. They are both smart, strong and good people. Wrongs were done to both of them by Orcus. Metta needs to deal with some of those physical reprcussions and Lucas needs to deal with guilt of what was done to her without his knowledge.

I think the best in this book is the group of religious men Metta has been helping. They love their community and her! They are so funny though and I just love the blood bank scene!!

Thank you for the opportunity to read this book!

A big thank you to NetGalley and Wild Rose Press for the free ARC for my honest review.

I have not read any of the previous books in this series-so I knew up front that I was taking a chance, but the story sounded interesting. This is probably not a truly stand alone book-but close. The one thing that I disliked was the amount of flashbacks-i felt it was a distraction. Regardless, i thought that Metta was a great character and the story was unique and interesting. Luke was fun as well. Overall a great read-I will probably go back and read the previous two stories. I would highly recommend this book. Enjoy
