Fire Girl: A Tale of Witches and Wolves

This book got off to a slow start for me, but I did end up really enjoying it! This author writes characters really well, making them relatable and easy to picture.

I'm not able to give too much detail about the setting, as I was fairly confused by this throughout the book. While I was able to enjoy the book by filling in the blanks, I was frequently confused by the lack of adults. It was eventually explained, but I still didn't understand - is this a parallel universe? Post-apocalyptic? We have a city, the heroine lives in a semi-abandoned neighborhood on the outskirts of a city. We have vampires, werewolves, and witches. There seems to be a paranormal world within the world we know of in real life. I really needed more world building to fully enjoy and understand the story. Overall I could still visualize for the most part, but you definitely have to get your imagination going.

Samantha and Daniel are our two main characters. Sam has been having some pretty strange things happen ever since she found out she's inherited property from a mother she didn't know existed. Daniel is bound to her by a spell her mother placed on him. They have a connection but don't know if it's real or just the spell. There is an evil uncle, a crazy being tied to him unwillingly, and a demon lawyer who turns out to be more important than you think. Lots of great characters who were developed very well.

I felt there could definitely be another book after this. If there is, I'll be in line to grab a copy! I would recommend this to paranormal fans. It's pretty clean so good for younger teens.

Main guy wolf boy is bewitched to help witch girl. Sounds typical and a bit overdone, but the story was ok. It moved at a nice clip. There were a few surprise plot points I wasn't expecting, and the ending was good.

It's not often any more that a new YA paranormal comes along and really catches my attention. The market is so flooded, it's a hard task to find something that really suits me as a reader. I've definitely become pickier over the years. But Fire Girl had me from the moment I saw that gorgeous cover and read the intriguing blurb. I loved the magic and the mystery, the characters and the dialogue - for me this was a fully immersive experience.

Samantha is a wonderful character to have in a YA paranormal - she's a scientist with absolutely no belief in magic. The fact that her sister reads tarot cards and has an interest in the occult just reinforces this, when we see how Sam reacts to it. She has possibly the best reaction I've ever read to being told she is a witch.

Then there's Daniel, wolf boy. The magic that forces Daniel and Sam together is a very clever hook. You're never quite sure how it's going to turn out (although you have an inkling, because it would have to be a hell of a twist if not), because Daniel is so adamant in his hatred of the way these feelings are being forced on him. Sam, in turn, can't trust him to feel anything real, so the push and pull between the two makes for very interesting reading.

The hidden paranormal society, the politics and business that goes on in the background of the story is what makes it a solid book. There's more to it than meets the eye, and the minimal world-building actually works in its favour I think. There's not much page time devoted to describing how magic works in this world, but I didn't have a problem with that - we were thrown into it pretty quickly, and there was no need for pages of explanations. You could say that Mulberry works on a need to know basis, and it's surprisingly effective.

Witches, wolves, romance and much, much more wait in the pages of Fire Girl. I urge any YA paranormal fan to give it a go.

While the idea behind the story was decent I found Samantha to be so unlikeable that I struggled to make it through this book. She is condescending, superior, stubborn and prideful. And the worst part is that she doesn't grow as a person as the book progresses. With a more likeable heroine I think I would have enjoyed this book.

I was a bit off-put by trying to understand why our main characters are teenagers, but that came and went as I was interested in the situation that Samantha was put in and the relationship between Dan and her.

And, I'm a sucker for some witches and wolves. It reminds me of Shiver and The Witching Hour all rolled in to one. So I'm a fan of some good ol' fashion magic and fantasy. The dynamic between the characters moved the story forward, making it feel new adult rather than YA.

Loved the strong paranormal romance and all the twists!!

I really enjoyed Fire Girl. It's a great start to a new paranormal series. Sam doesn't know that she's a witch growing up with her sister Ally. She received a notice from a law firm to attend a will reading for her mother, but the mother she knew died before this. Daniel is a werewolf/shifter whom she meets one night when she happens upon a body burning outside. Dan is drawn to Sam after Simone, Sam's mom, binds him to Sam as payment for a service she offered. Dan has to protect Sam and feels a deep love and connection to her even though he doesn't like witches. The book follows both characters as Sam learns who she truly is. Vampires and demons are also in the book.

There was a decent amount of magic and some love and even betrayal. I'm looking forward to seeing where things go with Sam and Daniel, plus characters like Eve, Victor, and Michael.

The book was so confusing at the start it was honestly all over the place, yet the more I read the more I wanted! Yeah, I'm a sucker for a YA Paranormal so I did really get into the story but I didn't understand is it meant to be a series or a one-off book? I hope it's a series or it has left me with a load of questions.

Samantha is a 16-year-old with a bright future. Living with her older sister Ally on their own as they have lost their parents things are tight but with a paid summer internship at the top lab at the university things are definitely looking good! One night a stranger comes into Sam's life and he is about to change it forever. Daniel made a promise to a witch once in return for a favour, which now crosses his path with Sam. They infuriate and can't stand each other but they just can't handle to be separated.

So at the start of the story, I was at a total loss at what was happening.
There was so much going on I couldn't get to grips with it but it started to pull together during the book. Yeah, it still was a bit erratic but I started to understand it more and I really did get into it.

I loved the whole scenario between Sam & Daniel usually I would hate it but it really kept me gripped wanting to know what was going to happen with them. I loved Victor, maybe I'm just a sucker for vampires (pardon the pun) but he was mysterious and I just liked his sarcastic attitude. I can't wait to find out what happens with Eve she really has me interested in her story surely it can't be over?!

The book was all over the place but I would still give it 3.5 stars, it kept my attention and I didn't want it to end.

"Until next time, then." He'd kissed her, his lips lightly against the corner of her mouth. A kiss to mock her. She'd left swearing she could hear his laughter ringing in her head.

The book is amazing.It is very interesting to read about witches and wolves.The story is fascinating.

I enjoyed the humor in this book, as well as Samantha's denial of her powers. That IS what would happen -- a repeated "this CAN'T be real" -- which made the story much more realistic.

I wasn't too sure about this book in the beginning, it seemed a little rushed. A few chapters in and I didn't want to put it down. The story kept my interest, I wanted to know what was going to happen next.. The book was overall well written.

Until the day she inherits a house and estate from her mother, Samantha has no idea that she was adopted, or that she is actually a witch! It takes quite some time and adventures for her to accept it though, luckily her mother made sure she would have the help of Daniel, a werewolf who has a debt to pay. I loved the characters and really hope there will be more to come.
