This one has a very different feel from the three previous samples cozier, slower-paced, and steeped in found-family warmth mixed with urban fantasy elements (vampires, exorcism, prophetic dreams). The voice is conversational and intimate, with Rachel's narration reading almost like a diary reflective, a little wry, and grounded in domestic detail (milking cows, making cheese, sweet tea) that contrasts nicely against the supernatural stakes.
The dialogue is a strength here, there's a lot of it, and it does heavy lifting for characterization (Sylvio's playful deflection, Father Neal's steady authority, Lisa's shyness). It gives the chapter a warm, ensemble-cast energy rather than a single-hero focus.
Pacing-wise, it's gentler and more exploratory than the battle-driven Syrus piece or the tense captivity of Fionna's prologue this reads like it's building a world and relationships slowly rather than throwing readers into immediate danger, which fits its cozier tone.
Voice-wise, this is clearly a different narrator and book from all three previous samples warmer and chattier than Fionna's raw urgency, softer than Syrus's predatory edge, and more grounded/domestic than the fae sisters' eerie elegance. Good range across your samples.
Overall: a warm, dialogue-rich opening with strong found-family dynamics and an intriguing supernatural mystery threaded through the everyday.
