Description
Watch out Southern California! There's a new entertainment attorney in
town and she's got game. Only problem is, it’s not the one she should be
playing. Corrie Locke belongs behind a desk, not behind a Glock. She
should be taking VIP calls, not nosing around a questionable suicide.
Instead, she's hot on the trail of a murderer.
Luckily, she's the daughter of a late, great private eye and she's inherited his love of sleuthing…and illegal weaponry. It doesn't help matters that her gene for caution is a recessive one. Corrie finds herself in the center of a murder case, unearthing suspects in shocking places. With a cold-blooded killer on the loose, Corrie will have to up her game, or die trying.

Title: Murder and Other Unnatural Disasters Author: Lida Sideris Published: 9-30-15 Publisher: The Wild Rose Press Pages: 332 Genre: Romance Sub Genre: Contemporary Fiction; Women Sleuths; Humor & Satire; Amateur Sleuths; ISBN: 9781509202416 ASIN: B014BVSWTE Reviewer: DelAnne Reviewed For: NetGalley My Rating: 5 stars . . Following her father's death, Corrie Locke abandons her Private Investigative business and becomes an associate lawyer in a firm that specializes in the entertainment industry. Unfortunately her dream job soon becomes a nightmare. Her boss seems unable to make decisions and stand behind them. The Vice President has octopus hands and the HR executive that does not understand the meaning behind the word confidentiality. When Corrie is asked by a friend to investigate what police are calling a suicide but may be a murder. Then people think Corrie has reopened her detective agency and bombard her with cases. There's the Rapper who thinks aliens are after him, and not the ones from across the border, and locating a missing Siamese cat for a basketball player. I thought Nancy Drew when I first read the blurb on Murder and Other Unnatural Disasters. Then I read she was 26 and a lawyer and adjusted my thinking. Corrie is effervescent and sees the world through the eyes of youth no matter her age. Once I started reading I could not stop until the end. Does she still remind me of Nancy Drew, yes, but I held Nancy Drew in high esteem in my younger years and still enjoy sharing her cases with my nieces and nephews today. If you enjoy your mysteries and romances with a touch of humor, then this is definitely one book you do not want to miss. For an intelligent woman she can be a bit ditzy when it comes to men, but she does not give up her search for Mr. Right. Find a quiet place, a glass of tea and a comfy chair and be prepared to enjoy yourself as you enter Corrie's crazy chaotic world. A definite 5 out of 5 stars rating in my word. Please tell me this is not the only book about Corrie Locke! Please!!! Murder and Other Unnatural Disasters by Lida Sideris was one of the easiest and funny cozy mysteries that I have read this year. Corrie Locke is one smart, funny and determined lawyer and investigator. I liked her and found her to be relatable. There were a lot of characters in the story which I found a little confusing at times but I soon sorted them all out. Complex characters, twists and turns for not only a suspicious death but two other mysteries as well, and a fast paced plot kept me reading until I finished. I am looking forward to reading more from Ms. Sideris. |

For me this was a 3 1/2 star read but I rounded up since I liked the ending and the solution to the mystery. Corrie is an entertainment lawyer at an studio. She is also a part time private eye thanks to her father. She is just starting this job and already there are dead bodies. There is a lot going on in this book. It can be confusing and overwhelming. There are lots of characters and different mysteries. I am not sure why the author felt it was necessary to put so much in this story. The story also was a little long I liked the main characters and their relationships and I am looking forword to reading the next book in the series. This is a fun cozy mystery with a Hollywood background and just a little romance. Enjoy |

Totally enjoyed this fun read. It was a really easy book to loose yourself in & who doesn't need that sometimes. Corrie was feisty & smart & I loved Vera (a security guard/ law school student) who becomes her partner in crime solving. I sorta see this book as Nancy Drew or Veronica Mars after the college years- loved it. I hope this becomes a series because I want more of Corrie and her crime solving adventures. ARC provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. |

I have to say at first I had problems getting into it, like maybe the first half of the book. Too many stories were intertwined and you got a feeling you don't know what's happening. But once you get into the story, it's totally a page-turner. A lot of twists, some you see coming, others you won't. I hope there's a book two. |

YES!!! One of my favorite authors is Gina LaManna. This book reminds me so much of the Lacey Luzzi series! I absolutely loved it! Corrie is a loveable, spunky character that you will identify with. Her friend Vera is so funny that you'll want to jump into the pages and tag along for the ride. FANTASTIC! This is Veronica Mars set in a California version of Stars Hollow. The Good: pacing is perfect. Main characters are all different by equally enjoyable. The Not So Good: There are A LOT of characters (Hence the Stars Hollow reference.) A few times it became a little confusing as to whom we were dealing with. The Verdict: 4.5 Stars |

This was a fun murder mystery and reminded me of the old Nancy Drew type mysteries I used to read as a kid. The only difference being that Corrie Locke is older, smarter, and sassier and kept me laughing as I read. She was totally relatable as a woman living in this age, trying to navigate both her personal and professional life. A great fun, light read, perfect for the beach or a rainy day. |

Murder and Other Natural Disaster is the first in a new series by Lida Sideras. It's smart, witty, and lots of fun. A cast of eccentric characters that will keep you laughing. And keep you guessing who did it! I'm looking forward to more mysteries for Corrie to solve. |

A well thought out and executed murder "who done it, with a whole host of off the charts hilariously zany characters, that'll actually keep you guessing until the end. The secondary characters were well developed and believable as crazy, eccentric entertainment people...their craziness, along with Corrie and her ability to turn on a dime when making decisions and defusing situations, made this one story that was a delight to read. I hope that this was the first book in the series because I'd really like to see more from Corrie, Michael, and James. This book was provided by the Publisher and Netgalley, I am voluntarily providing my honest review. |

When I saw this book listed in Netgalley the cover drew me. I never read any books by the author before, and it looked like a fun book to read. So I decided why not. It proved to be a great descision. It was fun, unrealistic and funny. Everything you're looking for in a book when you want to switch off and relax. I hope that this is the start of a series, I would love to read more about Corrie and her sidekicks. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book. |
