This book was a gripping blend of family drama, mystery, and emotional healing. The story slowly revealed deeply buried and unexpected family secrets through haunting flashbacks. It kept me intrigued as the past began to explain the present. Despite the darkness and painful revelations, the story ultimately moved toward hope and a genuinely satisfying happy ending. Emotional, suspenseful, and beautifully layered, it is a compelling read for anyone who enjoys twisty, complicated family histories with a hopeful conclusion.

Max Monroe completely caught me off guard with this one. I went in expecting a second chance romance wrapped in small town nostalgia, but what I got was a layered mystery that kept making me question who I could trust, including my own instincts.

The premise is irresistible: a documentary filmmaker returns home after her mother's death, reconnects with the boy who once broke her heart, and then discovers a manuscript that seems determined to destroy everything she thought she knew about him. From that moment on, I couldn't stop turning the pages. Every chapter of the manuscript raised more questions than answers, and I loved never feeling entirely sure where the truth ended and manipulation began.

Tessa was a fantastic lead. She isn't naïve, but she's also forced to confront the reality that memories can be unreliable, especially when they're tied to first love and old wounds. Watching her struggle between what she feels for Lex and what she's reading made for some genuinely tense moments. And Lex? He's exactly the kind of character I enjoy, charming enough to make you root for him, but mysterious enough to make you wonder if you're making a terrible mistake.

The biggest strength of this book is its pacing. Every time I thought I had the story figured out, another piece of the puzzle shifted. The manuscript within the story was an especially clever device because it constantly blurred the line between fiction, confession, and revenge. It made the suspense feel incredibly personal.

This is one of those books that's difficult to talk about without spoiling the experience, and that's probably the highest compliment I can give it. If you enjoy stories that blend romance, psychological suspense, buried secrets, and unreliable narratives, this is absolutely worth picking up.

I think if I could give this book 6 stars, I would. Oh my gosh. I loved everything about it. I loved every single character (well, loved to hate some of them) and every single character was so well developed, even the secondary characters. For me, a second chance at first love is always one of my favorites but this was so different from any other book that I have read. I thought I knew where it was going & because of this, there was a point where I kind of grew "tired" but OH MY GOSH where it went, I never saw coming. I haven't stopped thinking about this book since I finished it a couple of days ago & I can't wait for this to come out so I can recommend it in my store.
