Do you ever express an opinion or type at your keyboard about Washington DC or The White House or prices or even how local government is handling a problem in your own neighborhood? I thought so…you are in fine company & you landed on a book worthy of your valuable time.

It isn’t a book that might attract the hardcore politicos who are glued to slinging mud & griping about the other party. High praise should be given to one of the chapters where the author raised how public service should be a part of all our households. I think if our neighbors, friends or families saw us taking part in how your county/city/borough/township operates (or simply voting), it would leave a far greater impression than most imagine.

I’ll even go so far as to recommend this book as required reading for either a senior high school civics or communications class or part of a college’s course curriculum. Here is a concise & reader-friendly book that isn’t endless pages, but it will leave you with limitless thoughts after you finish.

I kept waiting for a partisan angle or an insult about one political affiliation or other. Instead - it is a read that will make you explore what you agree or disagree with & what direction you wish to see the US heading. It is your country too, but legislators & government officials tend to skip over that (unless they need you at the polls or they want a contribution).

It makes complete sense the author not only studied political science, but also then pursued a law degree while working full-time in government. To round out his expertise, he also had a long career in banking & finance. This isn’t your typical D.C. or state capitol lackey spouting off!

My apologies that I added my commentary, but I come from the same state (not terribly far from where the author grew up) & spent three decades in state government as a Paralegal & Research Analyst in both The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania & Florida. Florida holds a brief stop in my professional resume. I walked out of a legislator’s office here in Florida after one year declaring that an office practice was illegal in all 50 states plus there were cameras in that office parking lot. I left/never to return there, breast cancer forced an early retirement & I found myself my late Husband’s paralegal.

I also reminded that young state legislator that there are former legislators in jail in Pennsylvania for what was happening in his office. Fast Forward…He is paraded as a shining star in Washington, D.C. & that sadly happens too often. It also occurs on both sides of the aisle.

How much did I enjoy the book? The holidays are coming in a few months & I enjoy giving books that I had the honor of reading as an advance reader. I just ordered two so buying books even after you read them is a true endorsement.
