A young woman in a remote village must journey to the heart of a monster-infested swamp to dispose of a caged demon.

This starts as a straightforward quest story, but as we're brought deeper into the story it blossoms into an amazing complex narrative. Leah's journey through the swamp is filled with monsters, but she proves a brave and cunning protagonist.

Most of the revelations aren't much of a surprise, but Monteleone delivers them with aplomb and I closed the book feeling a grim sense of satisfaction.

The art isn't in a style I usually care for, but its darkness really fits the mood of the book.

Loved this delightfully dark (anti?) hero's journey. Great character design and development. And the twists! I think the plot device used to explain their setting is a bit trite, but it doesn't take away from the character arc. Hope to see more of this story!

This type of story is outside of my usual comfort zone, but I was very impressed by Canticle of Lost Souls.

We follow Leah on her quest through a seemingly never-ending battle of monsters, humans, and anything else that wants to attack. The art style is what really drew me in. The loose line work and the coloring style create a creepy, surreal, and uncanny reading experience. I felt as though I was being watched by monsters hiding in each panel, it really helped with feeling like you were on Leah’s quest with her, and always in danger.

The ending was my favorite, I loved the reveal about the world and what Leah does in response to finding out. This was a very creepy and creative story and I would love to see more from this world and Leah.

So good! I loved the visuals and the uniqueness of this world. It reminded me of scavengers reign and other media with vast amounts of creatures etc. The visuals were just gorgeous. The story was good too, and a little twist at the end too! I think this is a great book for fans of horror graphic novels.

Grimdark fantasy comic with many modern references.

Young girl is on a mission to get a demon trapped in a lamp out of her village, she has to go through a swamp filled with monsters and throw the demon into the pit at the end of said swamp.

This was a nice and fast read, plus the art is so amazingly done.

This was a very unique read, that was fast and packed a punch. The visuals were incredible and the characters even more so! I highly recommend this one!

Canticle of Lost Souls is a fantastic, delightfully twisted dark fantasy that completely caught me off guard in the best way.

The artwork is wonderfully eerie and creepy—filled with dark color palettes, distorted shapes, horrific monsters, and raw, visceral character designs. It sets an unsettling, heavy atmosphere right away that matches the tone of the world perfectly.

What really sold me on this book, though, was the plot and world-building. What starts out feeling like a standard dark fantasy setting quickly reveals itself to be something much more unique and layered. It turns out to be a really cool, thought-provoking exploration of identity, human selfishness, and the weight of responsibility when faced with ugly choices. Leah is a compelling protagonist to follow through all the darkness, and the ending landed really well. 4.5 stars

I really loved the art style of this graphic novel. It was so beautiful, very well done. It was the factor that really drew me to this book in the first place. I think that the plot was very good and I found myself getting attached to the characters in a very short amount of time. I feel like the characters were done very well and that really held my attention. The vibes of the story? Immaculate. My only complaint was that it was short and I want more.

A fantastic graphic novel that is a blend of fantasy and a medieval take on the last of us. With interesting characters of heroes and villains and anything in between I couldn’t put it down to find out what happens to Leah on her journey. The illustrations and colour schemes really build up the story to its dramatic finale. I wish there was more to read I really enjoyed this.

A quick and captivating read, which was supported by the colourful art and the intricate designs of a landscape afflicted by a Body-Horror mess meshing up nature and living beings. Even a bit short all together, and some more time with some characters would have been appreciated, the comic weaves a grimdark story about an ostracised young woman in a task too great and ungrateful for her. A lot of developments were guessable, nonetheless, I enjoyed seeing them developed.
Huge recommendation for comic fans of stories reminiscent of FromSoftware world building.

Oh this was surprisingly good. Multiple twists that I didn’t expect was a wonderful surprise from such a short graphic novel. This thing has layers. No further spoilers, just that I liked it.

A great grim-dark tale of survival in the case of pure and utter despair. I really enjoyed the messed up eco-fantasy horror that was this world. I loved seeing how this forest was morphed into a place of horrors. I enjoyed following Leah on this treacherous journey and found the ending to be very satisfying. I would have loved to see it just a tad bit longer but I still throughly enjoyed it!

Dark and deeply sinister. This book had me on edge from the very beginning and it turns out there’s a very good reason for that. I like my fantasy a bit more whimsical than grimdark, but the art for this one is what won me over.

Canticle of Lost Souls is a dark and gross in the best way possible. Its universe, despite being so strange, is easy to understand, and the characters have real substance. This was a great read, both thanks to the beautiful art and to the great dialogues.
I enjoyed this a lot, and I'm curious to find out more about this universe!
