I really liked this book! I absolutely love dystopians and there where a few plot twists I didn't expected. At the start I was a little bit confused because I didn't quite saw the world yet. I missed a bit of world-building. But after a few chapters I couldn't put the book away anymore. I saw the bond forming, slow and unsteady but that's what was needed!
The start was slow, the middle felt like a rollercoaster and the end was slow again. Be prepared for a cliffhanger! Because I CAN'T wait for part 2!

It is an addictive blend of dystopian fiction, fantasy, and slow-burn romance that completely swept me into its world. From the opening chapters, I was captivated by the mystery surrounding Eden, a supposedly perfect island society where peace and prosperity come at a hidden cost. What starts as a story about a young woman questioning her reality quickly evolves into a thrilling journey of rebellion, self-discovery, and forbidden attraction.

One of the novel's strongest elements is its world-building. Eden initially appears to be a utopia free from war, hunger, and suffering, but beneath the surface lies a society built on control and deception. As the protagonist uncovers evidence that the Republic has been hiding the truth from its citizens, the story develops into a gripping conspiracy that kept me eagerly turning pages. The gradual unraveling of Eden's secrets is handled exceptionally well, with each revelation raising the stakes even higher.

I especially loved the heroine's character arc. Her ability to see and feel auras gives her a unique perspective on the people around her, but it is her courage and determination that truly make her shine. Watching her question everything she has been taught and challenge the system she once trusted was both inspiring and emotionally engaging. Her growth throughout the novel feels authentic, and I found myself deeply invested in her journey.

The romance is another standout feature. Fletcher, the Protectorate's feared enforcer, initially comes across as intimidating and impossible to trust. The tension between him and the heroine is palpable from the start, creating an irresistible enemies-to-lovers dynamic. Rather than rushing the relationship, Davis allows it to develop slowly, building emotional depth and genuine chemistry. Every interaction between them felt layered with uncertainty, attraction, and conflicting loyalties.

Beyond the romance, the novel explores compelling themes of freedom, truth, and the dangers of unquestioned authority. The story raises thought-provoking questions about what people are willing to sacrifice for security and whether a society can truly be perfect when its citizens are denied the truth. These themes give the book a depth that elevates it beyond a typical fantasy romance.

The pacing is excellent, balancing action, mystery, and character development. The twists kept me guessing, and just when I thought I understood the larger picture, another revelation changed everything. By the final chapters, I was completely immersed in the unfolding rebellion and desperate to know what would happen next.

Overall, When Eden Falls is a fantastic start to the Island of Echoes series. With its intriguing dystopian setting, fascinating magical elements, compelling characters, and slow-burn romance, it delivers an unforgettable reading experience. Fans of The Hunger Games, Red Queen, and other dystopian fantasy romances will find plenty to love here.

I love a good dystopian book and When Eden Falls is no exception. There were so many unique details that I found interesting and I thought enhanced the intriguing storyline and characters. I found the world-building thorough but not overdone and the character development just about perfect. I can’t wait to read the second book!

Ooo! What avery interesting concept for a book! I enjoyed the power system and the dynamic between the main characters! I would say I am definitely looking forward to what may come next.

Thanks to publisher and Netgalley for the advance copy. While I don't normally read romantasy this is actually a well written dystopian scifi novel that has romantasy tucked in. It actually might be a better story if it didn't have the unnecessary romance (and would have made the dynamic between the MC and Siphon more interesting).

I absolutely loved this book and cannot wait for book two!! The world building of this dystopian world and its society is so well done! It feels so fresh and unique compared to many fantasy books.

This was so fun! The dystopian world was much different than anything I’ve read. The world building was great. The author did a great job at showing the world without overly explaining things which gave me an opportunity to piece things together— and that’s always a fun part of reading fantasy!

The romance was a great addition, but didn’t drive the plot, which I always appreciate. Pacing was great and had me flipping pages to find out what happens next.

I also loved the academy setting. So fun! Friendships were great throughout as well. Reminded me a lot of the Shatter and series and friendships, although the worlds were much different. This was so fun and I’ll definitely be reading book 2!

A strong start with this dystopian series!

It reminded me of older dystopian series like Uglies wherein there's a certain Big Brother feel to it but unique enough in its world-building. Araminta was a strong (if flawed, on purpose) main character who for the majority of the book is left in the dark about all the secrets hiding beneath Eden's shiny exterior. Her abilities also lent a fresh perspective - being able to read people's auras and influence their emotions makes the usage of such powers variable and also provides reasons as to why Araminta seems like a loner at times (feelings, especially others', are hard to digest let alone feel).

The twists toward the end did become a bit predictable with the clues lying around the somewhat obvious build-up to the climax that occurs nearly towards the very end of the book. A pretty sudden drop-off into a cliffhanger as well.

Looking forward to book two!

the vibes here were great, fletcher did not disappoint and i did not expect the twist at the end!!. if you like dystopian, some scifi, romance sub plot, this is for you.

289 pages that keep the reader engaged and interested the entire duration of the novel.

The world was extremely unique and seemed like a plausible future (in my opinion, any good dystopian should). There were certainly things I was reminded of like Divergent. The inner workings of the rebellion were well done. The magic system was also interesting and unique.

I started this about 7 hours ago and could absolutely not put it down. I was hooked from just the dedication. I'm left craving more.

I'm excited to pick up where we left off in November.

This dystopian world pulled me in fast! Well paced and full of twists, it gave me lovely Divergent x Hunger Games vibes while still feeling fresh. Araminta and Fletcher made for such compelling leads, I loved Minta's ability to see auras and related to how she carefully boxes away her emotions, while Fletcher kept me pleasantly guessing about him the whole way through. The world building around demerits and cullings added great tension, and the slow-burn romance between Minta and Fletcher felt so worth the wait. A few twists I saw coming, but several genuinely surprised me too. Some vagueness in places actually worked well, mirroring Minta's own uncertainty, but that cliffhanger is diabolical! Already looking forward to book two.

Absolutely incredible book from start to finish. I haven't delved into a dystopian world for a long time and I had forgotten how much I love them. I want to discover more about the powers, I want to know more about the elusive founder, I want to know where Araminta has ended up.

Dystopian novels have a special place in my heart and when i saw this book and read the description, I knew i had to read it. Minta is our narrator and main character and she is this mix of fiery rebel, but trying to follow the rules. I love how she just cant stop talking back to Siphon, which leads to demerit credits, which mean she has very little currency and therefore eats protein bars. There are definitely familiar aspects of other dystopian novels in here, but it works so I'm going to just go with it. The twists and turns in this first book were really good and i didnt see most of them coming, of course my thoughts on many of those are definitely spoilers and i can't prove anything until the next book is out. There was great tension, with a slower burn, enemies to lovers kind of vibe. I enjoyed it and devoured it, cant wait to see what happens next!
