Description
Go into The Wilds…
Enjoy a splendid journey with this illustrated chapter book for young explorers. Perfect for reading together or for curious advanced readers.
“Must read”— Reedsy Discovery
Two intrepid explorers have left behind everything they know, embarking on a Magnificent Expedition into the unknown.
Bigfoot—definitely not a creature of the imagination—is searching for something that might be.
Lump the rabbit travels for the splendour of the journey and to ‘bag’ specimens.
Together, their Expedition takes them deep into The Wilds, to places no woodland creature has ever discovered (or perhaps been daft enough to look for in the first place).
So what are you waiting for? Put on those walking boots...

Advance Praise
A whimsical, wise, and wonderfully "Myffical" adventure for children and seekers of all ages.
—Reedsy Discovery 'Must Read'
The Expedition by the author known only as Bigfoot is a delightfully absurd and whimsically charming tale of exploration, friendship, and the unpredictable wonders of the wild.
The story follows Bigfoot, a gentle but towering, always day-dreaming creature, and Lump, a sunglass-wearing, pompous rabbit as they set out from Pinewood Lodge on a Magnificent expedition into The Wilds. Their mission is the "bagging of wonderful specimens" and the pursuit of "Magnificence," but this becomes secondary to the hazards they encounter: mischievous bog holes, ladders to the sky, storm swept valleys, and the persistent question of whether the creatures they fear and seek are real or merely "Myffs." Each chapter unfolds as a self-contained episode, structured like a fable but carrying the cumulative emotional arc of a longer journey.
Enhanced by black-and-white illustrations that deepen its fable-like, literary-nonsense quality, the narrative balances playful storytelling with moments of gentle suspense. The prose is buoyant and inventive marked by rhythmic repetition and a lexicon of nonsense words that bring to mind classic children's literature like Winnie the Pooh, The Wind in the Willows and Alice in Wonderland.
The strength of the work lies in the comedic and poignant friction between the two leads. Lump is the quintessential unreliable leader who leads more with confidence than caution while Bigfoot serves as the story's soulful anchor; he is the reluctant philosopher who dreams of rhubarb and sweet tea even while facing peril, eventually realizing that his intuition is more reliable than any map they follow.
As the journey progresses, the theme shifts from the absurd to the profound, as the narrative explores self-doubt, disorientation, perseverance and radical acceptance.
With the author's history of children's stories, readers can reasonably hope that Bigfoot and Lump will return for more whimsical escapades.
With its whimsical charm, inventive lexicon, and tender portrayal of venturing into the unknown, The Expedition is both an imaginative delight for children and an emotionally grounded tale for adult readers.
