When a sacred and priceless Christian relic goes missing from Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, the Vatican asks American Kyle MacBryde to immediately investigate the shocking theft.

Once in Paris, MacBryde, a professor of Medieval Studies, teams up with Interpol Agent, Jessika Krüger, a Bavarian expert in art thefts. As they attempt to track down the relic, they travel a complicated and dangerous path to the Ethiopian Underground Churches at Lalibela, Mary’s House near Ephesus in Turkey, the Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland, and finally Rome. 

The investigation is further complicated by MacBryde’s discovery about his birth mother, his guilts about ghosting a former girlfriend who’s joined a religious cult, and his romantic feelings for Jessika.
