Crossing the Lines by Charles Searle was such a gripping historical thriller! I really enjoyed being dropped into occupied France during World War II and following Antoine Martinet as he goes undercover against dangerous collaborators.
The historical setting was definitely one of my favorite parts. The danger feels constant, and I loved the tension of watching Antoine move between different locations while never knowing who he could trust.
I also enjoyed the personal side of his mission. His search for the person responsible for his lover's murder gives the story an emotional motivation beyond the larger political conflict.
Overall, Crossing the Lines was suspenseful, atmospheric, and full of danger. I really enjoyed the combination of historical fiction, espionage, and personal revenge.

Thanks to NetGalley and The Book Guild for the advance copy. I love reading thrillers set in the past, and this book was no exception. The one thing that I love about this book is that the focus is on Antoine, who was on a mission to go undercover against dangerous collaborators. I also love to see that this mission was also personal because he wants to find the person responsible for killing his lover. This book was suspenseful and full of danger, and I cannot wait to read it again soon.
