A Note From the Publisher

Born and raised in the remote island community of Sitka, Alaska, Martin Baggen had to rely on his imagination to prevent the rainy isolation from stifling creativity. Baggen has produced a substantial catalog of original music. As a first-time author, "why not re-imagine one of the greatest stories of humankind?" And so began the creation of In The Shadow Of David: The Secret Rebellion.

A media producer and consultant by trade, Baggen resides in the Pacific Northwest and frequently travels back to his hometown in Alaska.

The next step in the literary/entertainment arena for Baggen is the adaptation and production of his current novel as a motion picture and a possible sequel to the book as well.

Advance Praise

From Kirkus Reviews:

"In Baggen’s debut, readers get yet another take on Christ’s life, yet this one feels truly original. In brief, it reimagines the familiar New Testament narrative as a sort of political thriller in which Jesus—or Yeshua, as he’s called here—is less the Son of God than a charismatic insurgent. (Think Dan Brown with more than a hint of Vince Flynn.) Working by Yeshua’s side, or sometimes behind his back, are Yohannan (John the Baptist), Yehudah (Judah), Miriam, Nicodemus, and a handful of other disciples and allies. Baggen tells his story not only through Yeshua’s eyes but also from supporting characters’ perspectives—an excellent narrative decision that lends the novel complexity and depth."

From Greg Mandel, author and former column editor at The Oregonian:

"This well-researched and exciting book – part sweeping epic, part political thriller -- gives readers a fresh and provocative take on the tale of Jesus."

From the Historical Novel Society:

"If you are a devout Christian and you firmly hold to your beliefs, this may not be for you. But if you are intrigued with the reality behind legends, any legend, this novel is a provocative suggestion of what might have been. It offers a new way to view the Greatest Story Ever Told."
