This is my first dive on a Lady Mechanika book! And Oh man! The artwork is solidly beautiful banger. The artwork alone can hook you to the end of this book. I like also the in between panels and book margin artwork that makes this book extra special. As for the story it's a good story a bit of the usual "vengeance" story but with some twist here and there, to make sure it wont sound like a formulaic or "run of the mill" story. I like how the writer build up and got me interested with the festival but I do wish that it should have given "The Lady" a more dark backstory. Still for some casual comic readers or new one, this is a nice read.

Lady Mechanika: La Dama de la Muerte is a prequel to the Lady Mechanika series that allows the reader some insight into her past and origins.
The story showcases that Lady Mechanika is running from loss and finds herself in Mexico during Día de los Muertos. She is welcomed by the people of Santa Catrina, quickly befriending the townsfolk. When the town is attacked by a gang, the Jinetes del Infierno, manipulating their faith in order to get tithings, Lady Mechanika fights to avenge the people of Santa Catrina and save the others impacted by the gang.
The story is an excellent prequel to the Lady Mechanika story and I think could even work well as some people's introduction to the series. This mini series does a great job highlighting Lady Mechanika's motivations and making the reader yearn to know more of her past.
The art is absolutely stunning and possibly some of the best I've seen in a comic series. Lady Mechanika's outfits and color palettes are striking; her design emphasizes how she's both fashionable and badass, not unlike Bayonetta. Additionally, the attention to cultural detail during the Día de los Muertos festival really made the artwork stand out. Every aspect is beautiful from panel borders to backgrounds. There is always something to draw your eye without the page feeling too crowded.
The panel flow is great, creative, and works extremely well with the story's pacing. I especially enjoyed the layout of the gunfights.
I highly recommend this comic, whether or not you are a fan of Lady Mechanika or just want to get into the series.
Lady Mechanika: La Dama de la Muerte will be released on February 9, 2027.
Wonderful as always. From the gorgeous art to the well thought-out storyline. Joe Benitz always adds a child that is enamoured with Lady Mechanika and this short series (3-shot) is no exception. A little three year old and her brother of maybe 8 or so have lost their parents to bandits whom Mechanika realizes are not as scary as they may appear to the villagers.
Easily one of my top 5 favourite comic book characters; Lady Mechanika is a kick-ass heroine whom has no “place” in life and so wanders joining up (when needed) with those whom need her help or are fighting the ‘good fight’, if you will.
If you want intricate art, steampunk style and good stories you won’t go wrong with any of Benitz’s comics; but Lady Mechanika is one of my favourites.

So good!! The art is insanely beautiful. This is an excellent comic for those who love Mexican culture. I loved the costume designs and setting. The plot was great too! A must read for horror and Mexican mythology fans.

I absolutely love the artwork in this. I did not expect just how beautiful it was going to be. I did not realize this was a prequel until I read a note in the book, but I'm glad I'm glad I read this one before the series. It gave me a different point of view on Lady Mechanika that I probably would not have had if I'd gone into the other books before this one. I loved the story! It's devastating, but sadly, our reality as well. It shows just how cruel some people could be without reason or remorse whatsoever. I honestly can't wait to continue reading Lady Mechanika's story and find out what happens next!
This standalone prequel is an absolute visual masterpiece. The blend of classic steampunk aesthetics with the rich, vibrant traditions of the Mexican Dia de los Muertos is simply breathtaking. The artwork and coloring are incredibly detailed — seeing Lady Mechanika in traditional sugar skull makeup and a stunning mourning dress is instantly iconic.
What makes this issue stand out is its emotional depth and masterful pacing. We see a highly vulnerable Lady Mechanika, struggling with her own trauma and grieving a tragic loss. This personal pain contrasts beautifully with the joyful, celebratory approach to death during the local festival.
Just when you are lulled into the warm, festive atmosphere with marigolds and mariachi music, the story takes a sharp pivot into genuine, visceral horror. The tonal shift is brilliant, introducing a terrifying and mysterious threat that immediately hooks you and completely flips the mood of the narrative.
Whether you are a long-time fan or completely new to the Lady Mechanika universe, this standalone story is a perfect jumping-on point. A spectacular, emotional, and gorgeous read that leaves you desperate for the next issue!
