If I could give this book 10 out of 5 stars, I would do it in a heartbeat.

​As a mother of a child who uses a power wheelchair, reading this book took me through an absolute storm of emotions in just ten minutes. I found myself in tears alongside Jules, feeling every ounce of her sadness and frustration. My child loves hiking and the outdoors just as much, and we know that heartbreak all too well—the pain of reaching an overlook and realizing the trail ahead simply isn't accessible, of watching others explore places you can only dream of reaching.

​And then, by the end, I was smiling and laughing with her. I know firsthand how deeply empowering it is to be out there in nature, sharing real adventures and freedom side-by-side with your family.

​What makes Ready to Ride so exceptional is its portrayal of disability. Jules is not painted with pity, nor is she depicted as a passive bystander dependent on constant help. She is a determined problem-solver with a genuine engineering spark. She designs, tests, rethinks, and creates her own way forward.

​The vibrant, textured illustrations by Andrea Altamirano bring so much warmth, movement, and joy to the narrative—especially when capturing the exhilarating sense of speed and the wide-open desert horizons.

​Books like this are desperately needed. They not only validate the lived experiences of disabled children and their families, but they also teach every young reader the power of adaptive design, autonomy, and true inclusion. A heartfelt, brilliant, and deeply personal triumph.
