Late on November 19, 1982, in the quiet town of Fishbone, Montana, a ten-year-old boy is slaughtered in his bedroom. Just down the hall, his older sister moves through the house, unaware of the horror unfolding only feet away.

The nature of his death defies explanation, neither entirely human nor animal.

Hundreds of miles away, Dr. Robert Qiu, a brilliant but haunted medical examiner wears the dead like a second skin. Witness to a brutal double homicide years earlier, the memory shadows him still.

When the boy's murder plunges Fishbone into terror, Sheriff Peter Stubbe calls in Qiu, convinced only he can uncover the truth.

But when Qiu arrives in this frozen neon-lit town, he finds something far more sinister waiting beneath the surface. Some ghosts, he realizes, refuse to stay buried. Something is stirring in Fishbone…
