Description
Epic Dupree played along . . . until she couldn’t.
Everyone thought The Duprees were the perfect family band.
But behind the Billboard chart successes were the family lies, behind those lies were the abuse and gaslighting, and then came the ultimate upending.
And so Epic left her home and her music in Savannah, Georgia, in search of a new city and a new life. She didn’t want to sing again. She couldn’t. She folded up her voice in a packing box, labeled it miscellaneous, and put it in her storage locker.
Now, ten years later, Epic’s manager reaches out because the fans haven’t forgotten about The Duprees. People want a reunion. They need one. The money could be amazing. But what about the wounds?
Ten years is long enough to heal the pain.
Well, isn’t it?

I really enjoyed This Is Epic I loved the whole idea of Epic walking away from her family and music after everything that happened, only to be pulled back into her old life years later. The whole situation with the Duprees was really interesting, especially seeing how much their family history still affects Epic even after she's spent so long trying to move on.
Epic was definitely my favourite part of the book. I really liked seeing her figure out who she is outside of her family and the music career she left behind. She has spent so much time trying to distance herself from her past, so watching her slowly confront it and work out what she actually wants was probably my favourite part of the story.
I also really liked the family dynamics. They were messy and complicated, but that made them feel much more realistic. There were definitely moments where I was frustrated with some of the characters, but I liked that the book didn't make everything completely black and white. There was a lot of hurt between them, but also a lot of love and history.
The music element was another thing I really enjoyed. I liked how songwriting became connected to Epic finding herself again rather than just being part of the family's history. It made the story feel like it was really about her finding her voice again in more ways than one.
Overall, This Is Epic was a really heartfelt coming-of-age story about family, healing, identity and finding your way back to something you thought you'd lost. I really enjoyed Epic's journey and the balance between the more emotional moments and the humour throughout the story.

A hopeful, uplifting story of overcoming past trauma. I was rooting for Epic the whole time.

This book is about the Dupree family band’s reunion after an explosive rupture. What complicates matters is that the band is also a family, and their personal dynamics are far from easy.
Epic, the group's most gifted member, is also its lead singer and songwriter. As the main character, she must confront the many hurts and betrayals of the past, most of them caused by her stepbrother. The contrast between the family band’s harmonious spiritual songs and the painful reality of their relationships creates much of the novel’s suspense.
This emotional story forces every family member to face the past, take responsibility for their actions, and work toward a better understanding of one another.
