Description
A chance meeting in the Dolphin Hotel in Plymouth leads John Tedesco to embark on his first cold case, that of a young teacher who suddenly disappeared in 1995 from the home she shared with her husband in the Peverell area of the city.
Exactly thirty years after the disappearance, human remains are discovered near a church on a wintry Dartmoor morning.
Rumours of sorcery, witchcraft and long-held grudges swirl among the drifting snow, but as Tedesco becomes aware of this gruesome discovery, he begins to detect patterns and coincidences which lead him to wonder if the skeleton might be that of Lainey, the teacher who went missing.
But will he convince a sceptical DCI Julia Tagg and her colleagues?
Can Tedesco help the police get to the truth before the wrong person, or people, are convicted?

Excellent mix of police and private detective investigations that come together to solve the murder. I hope this is the start of a series, because I enjoyed this one.

I right received an advance copy of Winter’s Grip. This is, I believe, the 5th book in the John Tedesco Mysteries series.
Tedesco is a private investigator who is called to investigate the cold case of a school teacher who went missing during the mid 90s and was never found. This story is told in tandem with the present day discovery of a body in a countryside church grounds under mysterious conditions.
I will admit that while this is a series, this is the first of the John Tedesco mysteries that I have read but I did not find it inaccessible due to that. I very much enjoyed the story and found the supporting characters who live and work around Rhyminster a very likeable community that brought a lot of warmth to the story. I will be going back to read earlier books in the series!
Winter’s Grip is set in the run up to and over the festive period and is a great read for an engaging mystery during the upcoming dark nights!
