Every island has its secrets. This one kills to keep them.

The gripping British mystery about a detective forced to confront the past he thought he'd escaped.

DI Gabriel Swan thought he had left God's Folly behind forever.

After the tragic death of his wife, Swan is struggling to raise his three-year-old daughter alone – and his career in London's Metropolitan Police is hanging by a thread. His last chance comes in the form of a murder investigation on the remote island in the English Channel where he grew up in foster care, a place he fled more than twenty years ago.

The victim is the harbourmaster, killed in a ritual that seems linked to the island's greatest wartime legend. When another body is discovered, Swan must face the past he ran away from, including his former love, Kate Vickers, now a police sergeant.

As old loyalties crumble and buried secrets emerge, Swan finds himself trapped in a community where everyone has something to hide, and where the truth threatens to destroy the island's identity forever. As more people die, Swan risks his life to stop the killer – and to protect his daughter.

This atmospheric police procedural combines a twisting murder investigation, small-town secrets, and a touch of second-chance romance. Perfect for readers who love isolated island mysteries, historical conspiracies, and emotionally driven crime fiction.
