Description

This is not a trading psychology book. It does not try to fix the trader. It shows what is missing around the trader, and how to build it.

Nothing outside the trader monitors the plan.

Most active stock traders believe that their central problem is finding an edge. But a setup's statistical advantage only shows up in results when execution reliably matches the plan.

Monitoring that match is left to the trader alone. Plans, rules, and criteria sit inside the trader, along with the composure to hold them.

Traders call the resulting inconsistency the discipline problem. It is what unaided Human Discipline inevitably produces under load, regardless of the trader's skill or resolve.

The diagnosis and the solution arrive in two frameworks:

  • The Destabilization Model explains how that inconsistency takes hold, below the trader's awareness.
  • The Stabilization Model shows how consistency is achieved through Structural Discipline, an external system that holds the trader's own plan and measures execution against it, so that execution is no longer the impediment to edge realization.

Paul Amoruso is the founder of TradeDojo, developer of a Structural Discipline platform for active stock traders. He previously led a behavioral analytics company focused on the rationale behind trader decisions.
