Description

This book is a prequel to the trilogy "The Wolves We Feed," which focuses on the lives of two brothers, Hermann and Albert Göring.
One helped found Nazism. The other dedicated his entire adult life to helping people escape from concentration camps and certain death.

The mist of oblivion
The ageing Heinrich Göring, once an idealist and a colonial governor, now a man without means, living on the charity of the wealthy Jewish physician Hermann Epenstein – the man who for years has maintained an intimate relationship with Fanny, Heinrich’s own wife.

As his memories slip away and the boundary between imagination and reality begins to blur, Heinrich clings to memories of the man he once believed himself to be: the young dreamer who hoped to work for a better world.

Yet ideals rarely survive unbroken, and the hard truths of life have shaped him into someone far removed from the figure he once aspired to become.

Lost in the mist of oblivion, he drifts back to the colonies, to political ambitions, to friendships long since abandoned, and to the choices that shaped both his family and a continent in upheaval.

The novel also follows two other families – ordinary people caught in Europe’s most fateful years, when small decisions carry devastating consequences.

In time, their lives intertwine with the Göring family, forming a portrait of an Europe moving steadily toward a future none of them can foresee.
