A beloved New York Times best-selling fantasy writer and an indie adventure cartoonist join ranks to helm a wry, high-seas graphic series unlike any other!

Welcome aboard the topsail schooner Rodentia, where pirates of every animal stripe, from capybaras to pangolins, toil for glory, and where the hunt for a legendary beast will prove the making of a small whiskered hero with big ambitions. In this highly original, hilarious middle-grade series debut from Kate Milford—the award-winning author of the Greenglass House books—and indie cartoonist Lucy Bellwood, nautical shenanigans rule the day.

There is a world of difference between a pirate and a privateer, young Monty Mellivore discovers, when the only vessel his parents can find to employ a small, inexperienced sailor turns out to be an infamous pirate ship. Monty has dreamed of chasing honor at sea ever since he was a badger cub, but being a lawless buccaneer was never part of the plan, and shipping out for the first time isn’t all splendor and shanties like the bedtime yarns he grew up on. But could those cherished tales—and Monty’s insight into a long-ago search for the elusive jigamaree—keep him afloat in dangerous times? Bold, bright art, irresistible characters, breakneck pacing, and dynamic world-building usher in a new fantasy-adventure series that will be the talk of the timbers!
