Description

Life is all about risk. Sometimes you embrace it. Other times, fate forces your hand. A. C. Burch's powerful collection of eight short stories are all about the cliff—the tipping point—the instant we must roll the dice or succumb to the status quo.

Burch's characters face life with courage and humor in a tenacious search for meaning and fulfillment. Set in Provincetown, Palm Beach, Boston, Maine, Carnegie Hall, and the Caribbean, these memorable stories span not just distance but the range of life's experiences. From coming of age to confronting old age, conquering fear to rekindling a failed romance, the quirky characters of A Book of Revelations are certain to captivate.

Vividly illustrated by Madeline Sorel, A Book of Revelations chronicles life’s foibles and the resilience of the human spirit from outside the mainstream.

A Note From the Publisher

A. C. Burch is an avid sailor, photographer, and musician who has little use for the mainstream. He prefers outsiders who defy the odds through wit, humor, and extraordinary courage. A. C. has an extensive background in classical music, both as an orchestral trumpet player and chamber musician. These influences can be found in his writing. He also enjoys photography, sailing, and the art scene in Provincetown and Miami.

A. C.’s debut novel was The HomePort Journals (Wilde City Press 2015), set in his hometown of Provincetown, Massachusetts. This tale of marginalized characters who unite to form a family of their own received rave reviews. A resident since 1987, he lives in 130-year-old Cape with commanding harbor-views. A. C. Burch splits his time between Provincetown and South Beach.

Advance Praise

Drag performers, detectives, and community moguls meet in Burch’s (The Homeport Journals, 2015, etc.) collection, which features coming-out stories with a twist. Burch weaves a collection of crackerjack plot twists in which unlikely heroes seize the day.

A colorful topography of mostly LGBT–related outings, forays, and adventures.

-Kirkus Reviews

“Let me say this as plainly as I can: very few authors I’ve ever read are capable of such beauty with words, no matter whether the scene he describes is a house being burned to the ground by homophobes or a lonely funeral at one of those awful funeral homes. A.C. transports you right into that spot.”

Hans Hirschi, author, Shorts

I love A.C. Burch’s A Book of Revelations! Each story does just that, lifts the veil on the secrets we all keep—even the ones we hide from ourselves. Through the quirks and musicality of his vivid characters, Burch enthralls you right up to the moment of revelation. You won’t regret spending time in A Book of Revelations.

-Taylor Polities, author The Rebel Wife

A maestro delivers his final, electrifying performance; a college dean’s valediction doesn’t quite go according to plan; a femme fatale’s true identity is exposed.

Secrets and surprises come tumbling out of this engaging collection of short stories. Here, the reader will encounter boisterous broads and bejeweled dowagers, acerbic turns of phrase and irreverent outbursts.

Capturing the salty sea breezes of Cape Cod and the Caribbean along with the heady buzz of Boston and the pretense of Palm Beach, these tales of the unexpected convey wit, joie de vivre, humanity, and gaiety. Readers will relishA Book of Revelations, long after their secrets have been revealed.
