Description
Vincent Kindel, a brilliant and charismatic Berkeley student vanishes. His disappearance draws his older brother Justin into a world of immense wealth, academic intrigue, and treacherous alliances. At its center stands Vince’s patron, Alicia Comstock, a commanding San Francisco philanthropist of rare intellect and imaginative reach.
At the heart of the mystery lies the double-dealing Chaucer scholar F. Narte Bickle’s vendetta against Dinah Wilmington, an acclaimed Black writer. MIT scientist Justin Kindel, a modern Hamlet, stands at the novel’s moral center. Intellectually formidable and wary, Justin is drawn ever deeper—first by loyalty to Vince, then by Amelie, Alicia’s astute and captivating grandniece.
By turns hilarious, suspenseful, thought-provoking, and deeply felt, Upon This Bank of Time combines the propulsion of a thriller with the richness of a major literary novel.Shakespearean in scope and sharpened by Swiftian satire, it is a tale of love, loyalty, betrayal, bureaucratic rot, and the high cost of truth.
