2244. Southern Europe has been transformed into a desert wasteland, while Northern Europe is now home to a vampire regime that has enslaved humanity.

Marianne, a human who is part of the remaining resistance in the south, finds herself captured, broken and handed over to Ciarán Sovak, the Lord of War, a vampire notorious for his cruelty towards her kind.

Marianne has to learn to survive her new reality, surrounded by enemies. But not everything is as it seems and Ciarán has his own agenda, one in which she seems to be pivotal.

All the while, Marianne tries to claw her way back to her old self, chasing fleeting memories of a mission that she was meant to fulfil. And for the first time she finds herself questioning whether the cause she has been fighting for is as righteous as she had always believed.
