Description
Petra Simon came home to claim the legacy that was hers by right. She didn't survive her first Gemstones meeting.
Denise Martíne finally has the life she rebuilt after loss: a gallery inside the historic Planter's Inn, a seat at the head of The Gemstones, and a community on Kiawah Island that feels, at last, like home. She has worked hard for this peace, and she has no intention of giving it up.
Then Petra walks in, poised, Harvard educated, and carrying a claim to a legacy membership nobody saw coming. The careful order Denise has built starts to crack, and the sisterhood she loves is suddenly divided over who belongs, who decides, and what a legacy is really worth.
When Petra is found dead, Denise is pulled into the one investigation she never wanted. As she digs, she uncovers exactly what her beloved community has spent generations trying to keep buried, and she discovers how far the people she trusts most will go to keep it that way. In a place where tradition runs deep and every smile hides something, Denise must decide how much truth she can live with, and what it might cost her to uncover it.
Low Country Lies is a high-concept cozy mystery with a Black women sleuth at its center, set in the South Carolina low country on Kiawah Island. It is a sisterhood secrets mystery about friendship, family, community, and the secrets women keep for one another. Book Two in the Queens of Kiawah series, it is a perfect book club mystery for women who love a southern cozy mystery series with a strong amateur sleuth.
A Note From the Publisher
Marketing Plan
Low Country Lies is book two in the Queens of Kiawah mystery series and publishes March 16, 2027. This is a fully self-directed, multi-channel campaign built around the readers who already love this series: Black women book club readers, members of Black women's service organizations, and cozy mystery fans.
BOOK CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS
I am a member of several national Black women's organizations, and I am personally placing advance copies with their leaders and asking them to share the book with members. A book club kit ships with launch boxes, and I am building a Black book club outreach list. I am available to join book club and program conversations.
STREET TEAM AND ADVANCE READERS
A street team of core readers (physical copies) and a wider digital team (e-ARCs) will review the book on Amazon, Goodreads and Barnes & Noble on or right after publication day, and post teasers beforehand. I am also recruiting social media readers on TikTok and Instagram through an ARC sign-up form.
PRE-ORDER CAMPAIGN
Pre-order buyers receive a signed bookplate and an invitation to a private virtual Gemstones gathering. I will email my network directly to pre-order and post across social media throughout the campaign. Hashtags: #LowCountryLies and #QueensofKiawah.
EVENTS AND APPEARANCES
Featured Author, National Book Club Conference (July 30 to August 1, 2027). Hosted signings are being set in Atlanta, Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Baltimore, Washington DC, Kiawah Island/Charleston San Diego and Seattle and other cities where I have community, including a book preview party in Atlanta the weekend before launch. I am also working a festival circuit across the South and the Black readership festivals.
PODCAST AND MEDIA
Queens of Kiawah, my podcast serial, returns with a second season tied to the launch. I am pitching newspapers, radio, podcasts and blogs, including AARP Sisters, which featured the first book in the series, and I am working with a publicist on long-term media.
