Another great My First book about the game of hockey. All of the rules can be found in the book along with pictures of real hockey players. It's a fun book for hockey novices and for hockey fans. Side note, did you really have to show a picture of a Blue Jackets goalie getting scored on?

This book explains the basics of hockey in a way that kids can understand and throws in some humor for good measure. I love the bright, bold layout. I definitely want to buy a copy for my hockey-loving husband to share with our twins.

The Editors of Sports Illustrated for Kids created a fun introduction to hockey for young fans in MY FIRST BOOK OF HOCKEY: A ROOKIE BOOK. This book does a great job explaining hockey to a child. It contains everything from positions to the more common penalties. Heck I know a few travel hockey parents that could use this book.

I love that the images are of current NHL hockey players. The little bubble comments drawn over the players are amusing.

My son is thirteen, so he is a little old for this book. He reads adult hockey biographies. However, all of his little cousins decided they want to follow in his footsteps and play hockey. We will be getting them copies of this book as a gift from my son. He thought the book was perfect for those learning the sport. I could see this being a fantastic bed time book. MY FIRST BOOK OF HOCKEY: A ROOKIE BOOK is nicely designed with great photos; it has pertinent hockey information, and it has funny annotations that will make kids smile.

My First Book of Hockey: A Rookie Book by Editors of Sports Illustrated for Kids The Editors of Sports Illustrated for Kids created a fun introduction to hockey for young fans in MY FIRST BOOK OF HOCKEY: A ROOKIE BOOK. Although this book is geared to children, I know many adults that would benefit from this book. Being an avid hockey fan, I enjoyed this book for many reasons. The illustrations/images were great. They were actual current hockey players with names shown and mentioned. They has little thought and conversations bubbles throughout the book that added humor to the facts. Various terms were highlighted (large, colourful, block letters) and then explained in simple terms using action pictures. This book is being published at a great time with the World Cup of Hockey and the NHL starting very shortly. A good book for public and school libraries as well as a gift for hockey newbies whether young or old.

Sports Illustrated Kids has done a fantastic job with this book. It is a super fun introduction to hockey for those young up-and-coming fans and those wanna-be hockey superstars. The book covers almost all aspects of playing and understanding the game: positioning the players, equipment needed, location where it's played, rules of the game, half-time zamboni intervention, and practising good sportsmanship during and after the game, just to name a few.

The authors brilliantly use cut out photos of current NHL hockey players and an adorable little cartoon character that is all eyes and ears as he is trying very hard to learn all about the sport from the pros. The humorous speech bubbles are witty and deliver a smile when assessing the basic facts and learning all about them.

The illustrations are bold, vibrant and full of action, just what kids love. I know your child will delight in this book and learn about the sport while giggling all along the way. If the book's goal was to win....it scored....BIG TIME! Expect lots of overtime too as your child asks it to be read one more time. Failing to adhere to that request might send you right to the penalty box. Enjoy the book, I know you will love it! Highly recommended by Storywraps.

It is that time of year again and the start of a new Hockey season is upon us. If you have a small person in your household that you want to introduce to the great game then this is the perfect place to start. Aimed at kids but would benefit any newcomer to the game this illustrated book features cut out pictures of current NHL stars to demonstrate key terms like face offs, icing, slap shot, checking etc.

It also covers the parts played by the different types of players and even explains the role of the Zamboni in between periods. It even includes the reasons for the most common penalty calls and these are done particularly well.

A clear and concise guide that the hockey rookie in your life will love.

'My First Book of Hockey: A Rookie Book: Mostly Everything Explained About the Game' by Editors of Sports Illustrated for Kids is a fun introduction to the sport of hockey.

The book is told with photos of NHL players and cartoons. The players think and say funny things as the rules are explained. Hockey is a fast moving game, and this book moves along pretty fast also. Much of the game is condensed and explained really well. The different positions of the players, the rink, and even the Zamboni gets soem mention. The basic play and more well known penalties are explained as well as the penalty box and what a power play is.

It's done really well. The book unfolds over the course of a game with a countdown clock on the pages for each period, and even including the breaks between periods. This is a great read aloud book for a little hockey fan. Some of the cartoony stuff was a bit silly, but it works in the context of the book. Its fun to see real players in a kids book.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Time Inc. Books, Sports Illustrated Kids, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

A great gift for young children being introduced to the game for the first time. Well organized, easy to understand and enjoyably illustrated. A really good intro to how the game is played, some of the rules and basic terminology. My only complaint is a personal one: Not enough Detroit Red Wings featured ;p

Although its obviously for children, this would be an ideal book for anyone just getting into watching the game too. It is well illustrated and explains things in easy to understand terms which even some of my stalwart hockey friends may learn a thing or two of which they didn't know!
I think every ice arena should have copies of this book, especially over here in England. It would maybe help to get more people interested in the sport instead of it been classed as a minority sport. I wish I had a real copy instead of the e copy its so good
