This historical book by Laura Frantz was filled with in-depth descriptive details. As Tempe Tucker leads Sion Morgan on a survey expedition they have many encounters with Indians and adventure. Ms. Franz can really make a picturesque book filled with what I would assume would have to be done through much research. The book shares history, some romance, but mostly adventure. There is no shortage of that.

Like with other books from this author, you can't miss and you will enjoy it.

I received an ebook copy from NetGalley for my honest review which I have given.

While the first few chapters were a bit slow to get into, I thought the book was gentle, sweet, and full of many emotions. The author moves the story at a slow pace, revealing the beauty of the untrod American countryside as well as the rawness of the open country ravaged by Indians intent on keeping their land. The mentions of the Boones were some of my favorite parts :)

Some might find this too emotional, but honestly I thought it was beautiful. The spiritual message was profound and played a great part into the story. Nate's love of Scripture made me happy. Sion and Tempe's slowly blooming love was realistic and deep.

Settling the Kentucky during the Revolution was not for the faint of heart. This book showed the hazzards the people faced and the strength they needed to stay and make homes in this untamed area. I thought this book did a wonderful job creating the tense and fearful existence faced by these first settlers. It was almost hard to picture the ugliness of the indian raids and what people were able to live through. Laura Frantz had done her homework and filled this book with detail about the place and time period that really brought it to life. I love to learn history through good well written novels. It brings that time and those events into reality and not just a blurb in a history textbook.

Tempe and Sion were wonderfully drawn and the cast of supporting characters were engagingly readable.
A great read for anyone who enjoys Historical Fiction with a touch of romance.

Laura Frantz has a way with words. She paints 18th century Kentuckee with prose that transports the reader, dropping them into Temperance Tucker's beloved wilderness. Tempe, as she likes to be called, has been dealt a tough hand. Although she believes in the Lord, joy and hope seem forever out of her reach, until she meets Sion Morgan.
Sion has been sent to survey the wild of Kentuckee but needs a guide to ensure he doesn't get lost or lose his life at the Natives' hands. Like Tempe, he's battling demons of his own. The difference is he's chosen to ignore God.
I love stories where a person has turned their back on God, but He shows up and shows His mercy and love. The power of God can overcome every heartache. It's a lesson both Temp and Sion must learn in order to embrace the second chance life offers.
If you enjoy the time period and are a fan of Ms. Frantz, you won't be disappointed.

So much history of the settling of the Kaintuck Territory! I wanted both the Indians and the settlers to succeed! In A Moonbow Night, you will experience a little of what the settlers lived through. You certainly had to be tough to survive. Rugged Sion was a wonderful main character. Tempe had lived through many hardships in her life. Because of her grief, she was too careless with her life for my taste. I have read all of Laura Frantz's books and will continue to do so! I recommend A Moonbow Night to anyone interested in early American fiction. I received the e-book of A Moonbow Night through Net Galley. This is my honest opinion.

I haven't read many books from this time period, so it was a little bit hard for me to get into the book at first--I wasn't used to the language, wasn't familiar with the geography, and didn't really know anything about surveying or early settlers in the Kentucke region. Some genres, settings, and time periods, I can just slip comfortably into, but that wasn't the case here. But that's okay! It was totally worth sticking it out. It was a really interesting time to learn more about. It's very richly detailed and really helps the reader envision what the time was like, showing day-to-day life and the very real dangers and struggles, alongside the hopes and dreams, of the characters. Tempe is smart, resourceful, and so competent, all things I really liked about her, and Sion, the strong, silent, determined type, which made me love him. Really fascinating book.

What an amazing reading experience! I was completely transported to the historical setting and the story which never felt rushed, but never felt slow either. Since my parents took my sisters and I camping and backpacking often, I've loved the outdoors and exploring the mountains. The descriptions of the wilderness and how Sion and the surveying team worked to establish accurate maps and guides was fascinating. I loved that Tempe was an explorer of the country too, and that she appreciated the little wondrous details of nature. The author did a great job of depicting the grim realities of the harsh frontier, including violent encounters with Native Americans, without being disturbingly graphic. Tempe and Sion are both weighed down by grief that hasn't passed by, but their developing relationship begins the healing process, and amidst the chaos of warring Indians on the move and the unforgiving wilderness, there is an undercurrent of peace and blossoming romance. The personalities of Tempe's family and Sion's team are vividly portrayed and provide opportunities for conflict, growth, and compassion. Highly recommend!!!

Wow! What an awesome book! Laura Frantz does an excellent job of pulling you into the lives of settlers and frontiersmen in the early days of the American Revolution. Life was hard and dangerous and there was no guarantee you'd live to see the next day. (Of course that can be said of any life in any time period but still...) With a hero and a heroine that have both loved and lost, you'll be cheering for the unbidden love that slowly builds between these two.

Both Tempe and Sion found a place in my heart. Tempe is strong and resilient yet at the same time she's tender hearted and wounded from tragedies in her past. She contemplates several times whether she wouldn't rather be dead than live with the hurts of her past and the dangers of the present. As the book progresses, she leans on her faith to get her through the tough times. Sion is a natural leader with a strength and depth of character that shines through the whole story. There are so many nuances to his character - he's a natural woodsman with a gift for drawing and a background in law that you wouldn't expect. His quiet nature, keen mind and strong determination, as well as a neglected but renewed faith, get him through some really tough times. The relationship between Tempe and Sion was slow in building but intense nonetheless. They have a mutual respect and admiration for each other that lays the foundation for their attraction.

The dangers of this time in history are portrayed with realistic clarity and heartrending tragedy. But you also get to read about the triumphs and the progression of the men and women as they make inroads into this new frontier. I really enjoyed the descriptions of the woods and rivers and moonbows! I've never heard of a moonbow before. It sounds beautiful. I also enjoyed the inclusion of a few historic figures like Daniel Boone.

All in all this is a wonderful, spellbinding, romantic pioneering adventure that you won't want to miss!

I have read and loved every book written by Laura Frantz. She has done an amazing job with A Moonbow Night. I enjoyed reading about the early Kentucky settlers and the challenges that they faced. I did not know much about Daniel Boone or his son James. The author has carefully crafted Boone's character into her story.

The heroine, Tempe Tucker, balances being an obedient daughter, sympathetic sister, and hardworking frontier woman all while nursing a broken heart. When her path crosses with Sion Morgan, her world is changed forever. Sion Morgan is a man fighting his own inward battles. He has never met a woman quite like Tempe and struggles with his feelings.

Fans of Laura Frantz as well as those who love historical fiction will enjoy reading A Moonbow Night.

What such brilliantly bountiful use of such wonderful words that shaped our minds and imagination and caused our hearts to feel such incredible feelings. This book was one that I would never forget for a very long time. It uses history to share a story like a violinist uses their instrument to tell the story of peter and the wolf. This is one story of the telling of a group of people trekking across the trail to get to Kentucke ( that is how they spelled it.), and it takes you along the journey and teaches you how to look for Indian clues, locales, people, clothing, homes, food and all the other challenges and dangers they face on a daily basis from the dawn to the next dawn. Then in all of this there is a romance between Sion Morgan and Tempe Tucker This book takes us on such emotions you feel so wiped when you are done - all in one day I might add. You will love this book.

Laura Frantz has written another wonderful book! I really enjoyed reading "A Moonbow Night" and learning some early history of Kentucky including a cameo of the Boone family. There is lots of adventure, romance and learning to overcome the past. Temperance Tucker and her family operate an Inn and are surviving during a turbulent time in Kentucky when Indian wars are all around. She meets Sion, a land surveyor, and his team who are there mapping the land. Life gets challenging and love finds them both. Loved this book and am looking forward for more from this author.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest opinion.

Ahhhh, to have another Laura Frantz book in my hands again. A Moonbow Night is a fabulous read. I just love Tempe's story and how she grew throughout. I was not sure what I thought of Sion in the beginning but that changed quickly.
I had a hard time putting this book down. It is a beautifully written tale that all historical lovers would love.
100 stars.

This is filled with tons of historical detail of life in 1777 in Kentucky. What hardships those early settlers had to face. The story started off a little too slow for my taste and picked up towards the end. I did enjoy learning about Daniel Boone and his family and the detail that was provided. I wish Tempe and Sion's relationship was more the focus but understood since each had lost a love and trying to recover from that. Not my favorite from the author but still enjoy her works. 3,5 stars.

Another incredible book by this author! So filled with rich history of the Kentucky settlers. It amazes me the grit and hard times they went through for land. I love that it wasn't just a happy telling of the times. I feel she was true to the time period of what really happened during the time period. Tempe and Sion were beautiful, complex characters along with so many others. The heartache and hardships they endured made them have to be strong. So many secondary characters to love as well. And the Moonbow itself! I highly recommend this novel.

I have only read one other book by Laura before this one and I loved it. I couldn't wait to get my hands on her next book so when this book came out I was eager to read it.

I remember when reading the previous book that Laura lays a lot of ground work for the story, it is a slow build but I didn't mind in the other book I read. However, with this one I really struggled to pick the book up and continue reading through the first few chapters.

I will say once I got into the story I did find it more interesting. I loved the pictures she painted with the scenery and the conflict with Native Americans and the uncertainty of who you can trust.

Tempe was a spirited young woman and I did like her. I struggled with the relationship of some of the other characters, I wasn't sure for a while if Paige and Russel were married and having trouble or not married at all. I wasn't sure who Aylee was because sometimes Tempe called her mother and sometimes Aylee, so for a while I thought they were two different people.

But as I said, once I got a handle on the characters and the story I did enjoy it and appreciate all the work Laura put into it. If you decide to pick this book up just keep in mind you will need to get through the first quarter or so before too much happens.

A lot of readers found this book to be intriguing and compelling, but I found it slow and ponderous. I didn't really enjoy it enough to finish the book, it was just too hard to get into it. I think this could be a matter of taste--the book could have just not been what I needed. I adore Laura Frantz's writings and have since I read her firstmbook: The Frontiersman's Daughter. I wish I could have liked this one better, but it just didn't fit. Thanks to Revell for allowing me to read and review this book.

A Moonbow Night is a well written book. I felt like I was transported back to the 1700s. I could picture the wilderness and the rushing river. The characters were well thought out and believable. I have never read this author's work but will be checking out other books by her. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy good clean historical fiction.

Temperance Tucker and her family fled Virginia many years ago to escape her father's murder charge. Deep in the woods of Kentucky, they set up an inn that becomes known to travellers as a safe and clean place to rest. The Moonbow Inn is a place where anyone is welcome- at least, almost everyone.

When Sion Morgan and his surveying party come to the inn and request the services of "Tim" Tucker, Temperance has no desire to come to Sion's aid. Surveyors have caused her family far too much trouble in the past. Besides that, she is still mourning the death of her fiance. She has far too much to think about as it is.

Sion himself is surprised that this girl is the experienced guide that was recommended to him. He is even more surprised when Tempe agrees to come with him, despite her obvious reluctance.

Sion, Tempe, and the surveying party set out together- but this journey will tear them apart and bind them together in ways that none of them can anticipate.

Laura Frantz has written another beautiful novel. The characters are well-developed and believable, and the story itself is woven together with a deep knowledge of history. I rate this book a four out of five stars. I received a complimentary copy from Revell Publishing.

Life for the first Kentucke settlers was full of hard, dangerous work. Like many pioneers and frontiersman, these early Kentuckians were determined to carve a piece of civilization out of the vast, rugged wilderness. I have to admire these hardy, determined men and women who fought for survival and built a legacy.

Temperance is every backwoodsman’s dream come true. She can cook, garden, track, hunt, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Tempe is a beautiful young woman who has embraced life in the Cumberland region wholeheartedly.

Sion is a skilled and intelligent outdoorsman. Although he is a man of few words, Sion is a natural leader and trailblazer. His courage level is somewhere between daring and dangerous.

A Moonbow Night is a beautiful tribute to the blood, sweat, and tears shed by Kentucke’s earliest settlers and the majesty of the untamed Cumberland region.

I requested the opportunity to read and review this title through Revell Reads and Net Galley. The opinions expressed are my own.

Author Laura Frantz returns to her Kentucky roots with her new novel A Moonbow Night. Laura Frantz is on my #mustread author list because her stories always paint epic pictures of individuals in American history in a prose-like, lyrical, immersive style.
If I may apply the topographical wording of “north northwest” to the genre, this novel is “historical historical romance”, with slightly more emphasis on the drama and history, though the romance that unfolds slowly is heartfelt and central to the story.

A Moonbow Night is as prolific and flowing as expected, with a new level of grittiness exploring the raw reality of frontier life, conditions, and conflict. Instead of typical plot and story, Moonbow offers what feels like an inside look at true frontier living. The monotony, the labor, the wild beauty, the challenge. The toughness of character required. The trust in the Almighty and fellow man. And, the sweetness of love and family which surpasses all eras.

Sion is a hero of few words and many actions. His steadfast presence is an anchor to the story, dependable for Tempe whose life seems ever-changing. Tempe, a strong character herself, is good at the heart and willing to do anything necessary for the people she cares for, whether it be family or a rough group of surveyors with a formidable🙂 leader.

This story delves deep into the heart, revealing slowly an intricate picture influenced by grief and love. While the reader doesn’t know the backstory of Sion or Tempe for a little while, one can still sense the pain in each character’s voice and wonder at what happened. Patience is rewarded as Frantz reveals the acts behind each character’s carried heartache and brings to light surprising secrets connecting this ragtag group of characters in unexpected ways.

While they traverse many trials and crazy-dangerous situations in the wilds of “Kentucke”, some making me anxious and wondering how any good could come from the current predicament, the magnetic draw between Tempe and Sion was unmistakable. This is, perhaps, my favorite part of this story: the bittersweet romance between them. Slow to manifest itself, I was constantly rooting for them to see beyond their own pain and realize the blessing and life found in each other. Their eventual path to this realization surprised me in several ways, but it offered a thread of hope, of purpose, tying the story together and pointing to God’s ultimate plan and provision.
