This book is about Maths genius Eva Walker who falls in love with artist Zenn Bennet. The only problem is when she touches most things she gets a fractal (she can read people’s emotions).

There was a number of moments that you could call cliché, Zenn was basically a walking cliché. However the characters were nice enough, they had a it of depth with their problems and relationships.

A cute enough fluffy contemporary which I try to avoid but it was okay. Nothing special except the story line was pretty unique.

With the brief touch of her hand, math whizz Eva Walker can usually tell how best to help her tutees. Touching Zenn Bennett brings unexpected results in this wonderful contemporary love story with a magical realism twist.

I really enjoyed this story. Normally YA characters really disliked Math, but I really enjoyed it when I was their age, so I really liked the fact that Eva was good in Math and enjoyed it as well. Also I was really into the story, it is a really bad thing when you know you have to sleep but just want to continue reading. That was what I was dealing with while reading this. I was engrossed from beginning till end.

This was a cute read. The story was great and well-paced. There was a lot of humour and wit that made me laugh. Eva and Zenn have a great connection. Also, I really enjoyed the plot twists. The story really surprised me to be honest. There are many issues discussed in this book such as the importance of family, friends, and the future. I thought Eva was a great main character. The ending was great too. I am now a fan of Wendy Brant. Can't wait to see what she has in store next time. Overall, a sweet read.

This book is so much better than I was expecting! Inside are two healthy romantic relationships, a girl learning how to navigate different kinds of relationships as she grows up, a well explained "magic system," a discussion of class and privilege, and so much more!

Eva Walker is a math genius who I need to hire as my tutor because she is fantastic at what she does. Of course, it helps that her "gift" tells her exactly what her student is struggling with. While Eva is a genius in school, the student she tutors (and her love interest) Zenn struggles to find the motivation to go to class because college doesn't feel like a possibility to him, and he has to work several jobs to keep his small family under a roof. I liked the contrast in their characters and thought that drew them together. Plus, I loved them together romantically.

There were, however, a few things that bothered me. The major red flag was the casual slut-shaming throughout the story. There are comments from several characters, and Eva points out several times that she "isn't like the other girls."

Despite that, I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys contemporary romance!

Book Review
Title: Zenn Diagram
Author: Wendy Brant
Genre: YA/Coming of Age
Rating: ****
Review: In the beginning of Zenn Diagram we are introduced to Eva, who is a huge math geek. We learn in the first couple of pages that Eva gets visions although they come in two forms; algos which she gets from touching calculators which tell her where people are struggling in math, so she can tutor them and fractals which she gets from touching people or their belonging and these bring very personal visions. Eva’s sense of humour is quite dry but to be honest I really like it, it gives her a human quality in her insecurities and her strange quirks that are edited out of the majority of YA characters. When Eva agrees to tutor Zenn she does expect to get a fractal from him which hits her harder than any other has and it feels different too although she doesn’t get anything from his math book like she normally would.
After returning home we learn that Eva has 4 siblings all younger and very religious parents. Her mother, knows about Eva’s “problem” and even sought to have it fixed when she was a child, but it quickly became apparent that it wasn’t going anywhere, and Eva refuses to mention anything related to her visions. While Eva is a doting daughter and sister she also seems very reserved with her own family and may suffer from OCD. While Eva earns money from tutoring she uses the most of the to help her family to survive although her parents don’t know and believe they are living within their means and funding her seemingly impossible college dreams. While shopping she runs into the mysterious Zenn again and finds she enjoys talking to him which is strange as she doesn’t seem to have many friends and struggles making her friends because of her visions.
It was nice to learn that Eva’s parents aren’t actually her parents but rather her aunt and uncle who adopted her after the death of her parents. Eva also wants to attend some prestigious colleges like MIT but the cost is off putting and they only way she can afford to go is be getting a scholarship. After the homecoming dance Charlotte begins hanging out with the popular kids since she is dating Josh and Eva starts to get pushed out but rather than fighting to hold onto the friendship, she lets Charlotte go because she is happy. Meanwhile, she begins hanging out with Zenn a little more easing the blow of losing her best friend. It was nice to see characters that were human, neither Zenn or Eva has a perfect home life and must struggle to get the things they really want, Zenn, for example, work 3 different jobs because his mother is a bit of a bum.
As we approach the halfway mark in the novel I found myself really invested in these characters and I also really enjoyed watching the romance building between them. We see the pair get closer through their faults, Zenn allows Eva to open up and become slightly more social and Eva allows Zenn a safe space where he can vent and get away from the pressures of his life. After a strange interaction with Zenn’s mother, Eva decides to see if she can find out more about him online. Through a google search she finds out that Zenn’s dad was convinced for DUI manslaughter after killing to people in a car that almost killed his pregnant girlfriend and a toddler. It turns out the two people Michael killed were Eva’s parents and the pregnant woman was Zenn’s mother. As Eva’s discovers this information the night after her first date and kiss with Zenn she is obviously extremely confused, she also realises the stones she leaves on her parent’s graves aren’t being picked up by her aunt/adoptive mother but by Zenn although she doesn’t think he knows.
After thinking on it for a few days Eva finally comes clean to Zenn that she knows his dad killed her parents, but she wants to be able to work through this with him. However, they both know if their parents find out that everything will get very ugly very fast, and it understands as Eva’s aunt and uncle have ever reason to hate Zenn’s dad and everyone associated with him. I really admired Eva’s maturity in these especially as Zenn completely freaks out. As they both suspected it isn’t long before Eva’s aunt starts asking questions about Zenn and his family and Eva lies to prolong their happy moments together despite knowing they will have to come clean at some point. Despite this, their relationship seems to be progressing rather quickly as Eva is overwhelmed by the fact she can actually touch Zenn without her brain going crazy.
Eva also is progressed to the interview stage for her scholarship and she seems more confident and happy with her life despite the dark cloud of reality constantly looming over her and Zenn. Things get even more complicated with her adoptive parents and the Zenn situation but what makes it hard for Eva is he doesn’t text her in this time although this isn’t unusual behaviour for Zenn. Despite, being together for the first time and becoming a proper couple Eva’s father isn’t angry he is just disappointed she gave up her opportunity at a scholarship for Zenn, but she did it because she feels if it had to be one of them then he deserved it more.
In the final 20 pages of the novel were heartbreakingly beautiful and everything worked out perfectly in the end. If you are looking for an emotional rollercoaster that does have a happily ever after then I highly recommend Zenn Diagram.

Cute story and amazing characters. The reality and the struggle they faced was so real. This book was meant to be a movie, which can be watched on rainy days.

Absolutely in love with the characters and it was a new concept of fractal which I have never read and was not aware about but i enjoyed.

Recommending for sure if you are on a look out for something heartwarming yet cliched but loveable.

This was a cute contemporary story. I enjoyed the magical sort of element in the story. I also enjoyed reading about Eva and Zenn. Their story wasn’t unique, and I was able to guess it but it was still good nevertheless. I do still have unanswered questions which I hoped were going to be answered in the book. It seems the author wants everyone to have they own sort of opinion about it. The ending was not left open, but it felt rushed and I wish it would have been plotted out more. I loved how Eva was a math genius though because you don’t read about that too often in books.

Rating: 4/5
I would recommend.

I have to say, I'm a little disappointed in this book, especially as I thought the concept sounded really cool. And I guess it was! The idea of a girl being able to 'feel' other people's baggage by touching their personal items and seeing 'fractals' (which are really cool by the way, google them) might sound a little silly but it was an interesting idea. But while some of the ideas that went into it were cool, I really wasn't blown away reading this.

The MC, Eva, was probably my biggest problem. She really grated on my nerves for a lot of reasons (the main being the inarticulate way that she treated her long-suffering Aunt, or her general bitterness towards her own life and obvious ploy to be as 'nerdy' as possible). I particularly disliked the way that she one minute seemed pro-feminism and the next referred to her sister's potential to become a slut over some silly thing. Her sister is a CHILD. I don't abide by slut shaming in any case, but I actually almost vomited when I read that line. Stop. I also really found this book difficult to get into, mostly because the writing felt fairly repetitive. Eva's viewpoint said a lot of the same things over and over again, and liked to tell me things rather than show me. I think Brant was trying to show Eva to be a little obsessed with maths, but the constant factual analysis of her life was annoying.

As the book got towards the end, I did actually begin to enjoy it more. Zenn was a great romantic interest - adorkable, funny and patient. I became more invested when I realised that the plot actually was moving in a direction. I liked that all the little threads of the story came together really well too, and I have to say that Brant did a good job portraying teenage relationships and friendships. I could actually picture most of these things happening in my secondary school, so that's a good sign! I just wish that Brant had spent less time on useless bits of information and more time developing her characters well alongside the plot.

Zenn Diagram by Wendy Brant is as cute as the title suggests. High School Senior Eva (pronounced "ever" without the "r"), is gifted in mathematics and helps tutor other students who need a leg up. A PK (Pastor's Kid), she has extra responsibilities involving her quadruplets siblings, the eees, who at three are a handful requiring more than one set of hands. With so many mouths to feed, her dreams of attending a top notch college hinge on receiving a hefty scholarship. Then she meets Zenn, (pronounced like Zenn Diagram), who captures her heart as she helps him up his math grades. Zenn is a true artist who also has dreams of attending a prestigious college despite his lack of funds to pay the all-too-expensive tuition.

Sounds like your typical teen novel, but there are a bunch of twists starting with a terrible car accident which occurred when Eva was a baby, killing her parents and leaving her with a rare gift/curse - the ability to decipher the emotions of people through physical contact with them or the objects they have touched. With small children it's all pastel colors and sweet thoughts, but adults radiate complicated vibes which often leave Eva prostrate as their angst can be overwhelming. Eva fantasizes about touching Zenn, a feat she fears is beyond her ability due to the anticipated negative reaction. Somehow she must figure out how their relationship can move beyond the pupil/teacher stage, especially when Zenn seems to feel a mutual attraction. Of course, Eva is not the only one with a secret, and the mystery in Zenn's life threatens to affect the future of both of their lives. Add in a lifelong best friend who kinda goes MIA when the popular athletic boy shows an interest and an interesting home dynamic which interferes with any thoughts of romance, and you have a fun little YA novel.

While this debut novel by Wendy Brant is well worth the read, the author needs to watch out for repetitive thoughts (Eva too often laments about her inability to touch Zenn and her difficulty going to her first choice college). However, there are several twists which will keep the reader guessing and a hopeful conclusion which seems reasonable without being too sicky-sweet. Four stars and a thank you to Netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book was cute. I liked Eva , I liked that she could essentially read a person just by touching them, and I loved Zenn. There come times I'm just in the mood for a fluffy YA and this definitely delivered.

Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed the unique point of view that the character of Eva was able to provide to the story. She was a Math genius which means that everything that she talks about always comes back to that subject matter. Math is black and white whereas human interaction is more difficult and filled with subtle nuances that were hard for Eva to understand. I thought that her gift was interesting although I feel that the author could have taken it further somehow. We meet her when she has all but given up touching other people so there are not many instances when her gift is explored in the book.
The story was a bit lackluster for me. I guess I wanted something more from the book...more drama surrounding Zenn's secret or a more in depth look at how each of them have been affected by their pasts. I saw the secret that Zenn had coming from miles away. I'm not sure if this was intentional on the author's part or not but I would have liked it to be more shocking considering the both of the characters reactions in the story. Everything seems to blow over fairly quickly (within 30 pages) with everything being accepted and hardly any hardship whatsoever.
It seemed as if the author focused quite a bit on Eva's gift until around the halfway point of the book and then focused more on the secret than on her gift. I'm not sure if the book would have been better if the author would have chosen to keep the focus on Eva's gift throughout the book or not but it made the book seem a bit divided when I read it.

I read Zenn Diagram in a day. Its sickly sweet and very cliche. The love interest is a dark, handsome artist who has raised himself to perfection. MC is helpful at home, straight A student, nerdy cutesy and has the ability to "feel" peoples feelings. The last bit was strangely downplayed the further in to the novel I got, and after not receiving more than some vague ideas to why, I personally felt it could have been left out all together.

Mega con:
MC spends the first half of the book going on about how much she and her friend aren't like "other" girls: in too clothes, makeup, boys etc, and I hate this! What is wrong with being in to these things? What makes her "Better" than other girls? I don't like this way of thinking at all.

Pros:
So easy too read and Wendy Brant has a good voice. I would read more of her writing, but i'm hoping she will gain some more flesh on her book bones with time.

I recommend this for: high school girls.
