One thing I have learned from reading most of Billy Coffey’s books is that when I open one I can expect the unexpected. Not only does this author have a brilliant mastery of words but his imagination is extraordinary.

I am finding it somewhat difficult to know what to say about this amazing novel without spoilers. “Some Small Magic” is about what might be called a journey of faith with three unlikely characters. This journey takes them through some very dark places as well as danger. As the reader gets to know these characters and their circumstances, the unbelievable somehow becomes plausible and anything is possible. Although a bit confusing at times, all the loose threads are woven together for a satisfying ending.

This poignant story is filled with quotable lines and left me with much to ponder about life and death and how we live our lives. I hope other readers will give this fine author a chance and read “Some Small Magic”.

Some Small Magic is a powerful novel -- a story of restoration, a tale of the longing to be made whole, a longing that can only be fulfilled in a heavenly kingdom -- and a reflection of the heart of the One who will someday restore all things. At points, this may seem like a tragic story, but it is beautiful, a story that I will long remember. The characters will challenge you to keep your eyes open to the unseen world around you and keep your heart set on the true treasures that lie above.

Abel and his mother, Lisa, know what it means to be poor, to be less than. Afflicted, all his life, Abel has wished to be seen and accepted, to be normal. After a traveling preacher gives him a word that promises him treasure, healing, and a reward, Abel embarks on a journey with his best friend, Willie - but it doesn't go as they had planned. As they set off, they meet Dorothy, a character with her own secrets, who journeys with them on an extraordinary trip which delivers everything that was promised... treasure, healing, and reward, but perhaps not in the ways that any of them expected.

Thank you, Billy Coffey, for this poignant reminder that there will be time when won't have to say goodbye again.

Some Small Magic is a good read. I enjoyed the characters, plot, and set in the hills of Virginia, which is my favorite setting in a story. Recommended.
