Wrong Number by Carys Jones A gripping psychological thriller that I couldn’t put down. This book reeled me in from the start. I recommend this book to all psychological thriller fans.

This book starts with Amanda gets a phone call asking for Jake Burton, she repeatedly tells the caller that no one by that name resides there. But the calls continue, and when she mentions about this call to her husband he doesn't react much, BUT he decides to just vanish without leaving a trace. The twists kept coming, and I like the way Amanda has been portrayed as a strong female character who doesn't give up at all!
Overall this was a very intriguing thriller, thanks to Netgalley, Aria , Carys Jones for approving the ARC

A great thrilling read, I could not put this down!! Such a great story, and characters... I'd even liken it to books from Harlan Coben. Fabulous!!

From the description this book appears to have all the elements to be a real page turner. It certainly started out like that but my interest began to wain slightly when the fact that her husband had disappeared dragged on and on with no seemingly way forward.

However, this did change around half way through the book as we begin to learn more about Will and his past and also that Amanda is not as squeaky clean and innocent as we first thought. She is in fact a hacker! This really forms the basis for how Amanda begins to be able to track her husband down.

The book then goes into the realms of fantasy a little but I stuck with it and it did once again become quite the page turner. Turn pages I did at quiet a pace as there is a lot of descriptive writing that really doesn't add to the story. There is also a sub story with Amanda and her ex-boyfriend who conveniently is a policeman and so this aids the story line.

I did struggle at the beginning of the book to decide if this was set in England or the USA, I like to set the scene in my mind. I'm not sure if Carys Jones is American but I would guess she is based on the fact that her Scottish character talks about driving a shift stick - which we would call a gear stick and also the "police precinct" another term not used in the UK. Minor points but grated with me.

Overall this book does have a good story line and there is now a sequel too.

I'm giving this book 3 out of 5 stars. My thanks to Netgalley for a copy to review.

Unfortunately I never finished this book. Having started reading it about 3 months ago a lot of things have gotten in the way and, coupled with the fact that the story didn't seem to make me want to make time to read it I decided it was time to leave it behind.

Perhaps it was the perfect storm of bad timing, a lack of effort on my part and a slightly less engaging story than I'd hoped for that made me decide to put this one down for good. It's a shame as the first third of the book is good. Quite slow but good. Amanda receives a wrong number call, except it isn't actually a wrong number just the wrong person; the wrong person being her husband who is not as he seems. Amanda soon realises her husband is gone and she cannot find him. The story then follows on as Amanda tries to track him down with the help of her ex-boyfriend police detective.

I had gotten two thirds through this book and perhaps in time I will come back to finish it. I think if I had the time to read this in a week or two I'd have enjoyed it much more than I did and it certainly wouldn't put me off reading anything by the same author again.

Wrong Number is the first in a series by Carys Jones (author of Prime Deception). The sequel to Wrong Number, titled Last Witness, is already out and receiving great reviews, so admittedly I'm a little late to the party here!

Amanda, a successful web designer, leads a happy life with husband Will. Until one day, she receives a strange phone call, asking for a Jake Burton. The mysterious caller is adamant that Jake lives at the property. Amanda puts it down to a simple wrong number.

But then Will disappears.

Leaving without so much as a note or call is extremely out of character for her normally meticulous husband Will. Worried and frantic about his whereabouts, she contacts the police. Meanwhile, using her skills as a former hacker, Amanda starts to look into Will's online presence. And things just don't seem to add up...
When will is officially declared missing, the police officer on the case is none other than Amanda's ex boyfriend Shane. A man who knows everything about Amanda's past. Shane is now in a new relationship, but with the pair working closely on the investigation of Will's disappearance, will Shane and Amanda fall for one another again?

When I saw this book on Netgalley I had to request it, because I love a good thriller, and the premise of Wrong Number sounded gripping. It is...but not straight away. The action and suspense seems to pick up in the second half. It's quite slow at first, but I carried on, and was glad because the story does get better.

I particularly enjoyed the darkweb element of the book. It was original, and made for an interesting glimpse into the past of Amanda, who wasn't the perfect wife that she initially seems. I liked that Amanda has a secret past, one she's not particularly proud of.

Wrong Number seems, to me anyway, to be less of a fast-paced thriller and more of a mystery with a bit of romance. I found this with Carys's previous novel, Prime Deception. Now, I am partial to a romantic sub-plot, however this book seems to be marketed as a thriller, which may mislead some readers who are looking for something more gripping and psychological. The ending was, in my opinion, a little bit hurried.

I don't want to spoil too much, but I enjoyed Wrong Number; Carys Jones is a great writer, and even though this book is slightly predictable and a bit slower than I had expected, it's still a good read overall.

Rating: 3/5

Amanda and Will have a great life until Amanda gets a phone call, asking for a guy called Jake, she tells Will about the call and Will disappears!!!!....

She then embarks on a hunt to find Will and starts to uncover other things, how well do you know you're husband? This is what she finds herself asking and so will you.

Great story with good depth and characters, a good plot too and great twists and turns....loved this book can't wait for more!!!

This book suffers from detail overload. Every single thing does not need to be described with unnecessary detail. I found my attention wandering while reading this. Not a book that I would recommend.

The beginning starts rather slow.
Wrong number is one of them books that is impossible to review without spoilers so I m not going to try.
What would you do if you suddenly found out your marriage was a lie...
Not a bad book good job there is a second one coming out because the ending just left you hanging.

Thank you Netgalley the Author and publisher for a copy of this book.

This is a book that came out months ago. I've been trying to get around to reading it as book 2 is out now which I'm planning on reading ASAP as this one was very good.
It didn't blow my socks off, not quite but I would certainly recommend it to all that love a good twist in its tail thriller.

When Amanda met and married Will he didn't have family attend the wedding.
But you understand his reasons when they are touched on slightly at an early stage into the story. Amanda was fine with it.

Her mother wasn't a huge fan of Will though as she loved Shane who was Amanda's previous love, they grew up together.

Amanda seems to have it all. Good husband, nice house, great job.

Then the phone rings......
That changes the dynamics of the entire secure relationship and family she's secured with Will.

She later has to call on her ex. Shane. He's the best Detective there is in the town.

The story takes on the search for the missing husband in such a great imaginative way that you'll be shocked, I know I was.

Can't wait to read book 2

My thanks to Aria for my copy

Amanda and Will are living the dream, loving wife, handsome husband, perfect dream home until one day while Will is at work their phone rings.A man wants to speak to a Jake Burton and refuses to believe Amanda when she insists that no one going by that name lives there.Later that evening Amanda tells Will about the phone call,he asks her a few questions about the call and then they go to bed.Next morning when Amanda wakes up Will is gone, she is not overly worried until she gets a call from Will`s boss who wants to know where Will is.That is when Amanda`s world shatters,if Will hasn't gone to work then where is he?

Amanda is determined to find her husband and enlists the help of her ex boyfriend Shane who is a police Detective.Together they are drawn into a world of drug dealers, criminal masterminds and broken promises.

As the truth becomes clearer,Amanda begins to wonder if she ever really knew her husband at all.

I was drawn to this book by the Intreguing tag lines on the front cover especially the a Missing husband one,I do love a Missing person mystery. The problem was that the conclusion of that little mystery was revealed in the opening prologue,a fact that spoiled some of my enjoyment of the story.Amanda was a likeable but also frustrating lead character,I liked her fiestiness, loyalty and stubbornness, she was going to find her husband no matter what danger she was putting herself in.The frustrating part was her feelings for Shane which ebbed and flowed like the waves of the sea that she loved so much.I enjoy reading thrillers because I love getting caught up in the danger, mystery and action,if I wanted romance and love triangles then I would read a Mills and Boon. The constant flashbacks and mentions of Amanda`s dad became irritating and repetitive after a while,I understand that she missed him and that he was her hero but I didn't need to be reminded about it over and over again. Its hard to judge Will`s character because what you do know about him is learnt from Amanda's point of view and as for Shane I don't think that he is the loyal, trustworthy character that he appears to be.

I liked the use of the darknet in the story,it's not something that I know much about although my daughter says that it's misconstrued.I liked the dramatic chase through the woods and the Intreguing unsolved mystery of who Turtle82 is.The abrupt ending didn't bother me that much because I had already requested and downloaded the sequel.Although I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would I am intregued enough to want to know how the story is going to end.

Will and Amanda lead a pretty good life until Amanda receives a very strange phone call one day. The caller, who asks for someone Amanda doesn’t know, refuses to believe she doesn’t know that person. Amanda mentions it to her husband, but he just shuts down. The next day, after her husband disappears, she starts to wonder if there is a connection and begins to investigate. This book was okay in parts and really, really good in others, but, I would recommend it thriller lovers.

I'm conflicted about this one.

On the one hand, I really liked it. It kept my attention and kept we wondering how it was all going to turn out. On the other, it wasn't very suspenseful, as implied in the description, and it was a cliffhanger ending. I hate cliffhanger endings.

If you do too, this book is not for you.

Basically, the story is about a woman - a former darknet hacker - who has settled down into married life and thinks everything is going great, until one day she was a weird phone call asking for someone she's never heard of. The next morning, her husband is gone. With the help of her ex-boyfriend, a homicide detective, and her hacking skills, she discovers that her husband is hiding some very dark secrets.

Like I said, this novel is actually pretty light on suspense, since it's not too hard to figure out what has happened, but I did enjoy reading along to see how everything turned out. There's a love triangle - of course - and I actually really liked that part. It was very interesting to see what Amanda chooses to do and where her feelings lie.

That love triangle was actually the most interesting part to me and I was weirdly invested in it (Team Shane!).

But then there's the ending, which as I said earlier, is a bit of a cliffhanger. It resolves some things, but leaves a huge, wide door open. I understand that this is supposed to be the start of a series, but I would have liked a little more closure here. I mean, it truly felt like the ending of an episode of "Scandal," but now we have to wait until the next book comes out, which can be a long time in book world.

But I guess the big question is would I pick up the next in the series. And the answer is yes, I would. As I said before, it's not a bad story, and I am interested to see where it goes.

So I mildly recommend this one. Fans of action books and love triangles will enjoy this book; if you're looking for a mystery/thriller, skip it.

Maybe if the next one is a little more developed, it will veer into the thriller genre. The author certainly has the potential to write a very good, suspenseful novel.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in return for an honest review.

An enjoyable thriller, although not as full of twists and turns as most suspense or psychological thrillers. However, the book has a solid plot and is well written with believable characters. All in all a good read.
